Places to see around Ireland.

For those of you who have not yet ventured to the Emerald Isle so far,i thought i'd give you a brief list of my top five places to visit, just incase you find yourself here.

If your from Ireland reading this, please read on, because i've found that MOST of us hav'nt travelled much around Ireland, even though it's on our doorsteps. We tend to go elsewhere for our holidays, because more often than not,the weather lets us down.

Anyway here goes...not in any order of preference...i might add.

DUBLIN:An obvious choice i know,& not just because i live here.Being our capital city,it has just SO much to offer in terms of tourist attractions, history, fine dining, culture,& all-round good fun.

Dublin is relatively small by comparison to other european cities. The city center is quite compact,& good for touring on foot.Places of interest are too numerous to mention, but dotted all over the place.

Some of which are Trinity College,Guinness's,National Meuseum/Art gallery,Hugh Lane Gallery,Memorial Gardens,Pheonix Park (Europe's largest urban park),Dublin Transport Mueseum,Kilmainhem Jail,The Jameson Distillery,& St Stephan's Green,to name but a few.

There is a huge array of Restuarants,Cafes,& Bars & Theatres to suite all tastes,so you should find something to your liking.

ENNISKERY DISTRICT Co Wicklow:This small, but quaint town, south of Dublin, just off the N11,is a little gem!

There is so much to see & do here. The town itself offers a small array of cafe's,restuarants & bars, but it's just outside the town that holds many more inviting attractions for the tourist in you.

(Point of interest....you'll need a car to get to these & a good pair of walking shoes, with light raingear)

Powerscourt Gardens,Powerscourt Waterfall (there is a fee for these),Glencree visiting centre & German Cemetary,& for the more enerjetic of you,Sugarloaf Mountain, are just some of the attractions within a few KM's of the town.

GLENDALOUGH Co Wicklow:This i one of my favorite places to visit on the East coast of Ireland.Allow a full day for this as it's about 30KM's from Dublin city.

This is one of THE most beautiful places to visit because of it's scenic location, smack in the middle of the valley & lake district of Co Wicklow.

There are two lakes,an upper & lower lake. The former Upper lake, with good amenities has a waterfall nearby that can be got to easily enough by a path made for it.There is a Monastic ruin here along one of the trails,& a lakeside beach ideal for taking photo's of the FABULOUS U-shaped valley surrounding the lake.

There is a dedicated Picnic area,so it's great for relaxing in tranquil surrounds,& letting the have a run round safely.

There is a nature trail that connects both lakes in two ways.Firstly, there is the normal pathway that has been specially made, that runs beside the river.Secondly, there is a purpose-built walkway through the marshland which is part of the Nature reserve. It meanders zig-zaggily through the marsh allowing you to lookout for any wildlife that may inhabit the terrain.

Near the lower lake, there is a Monastic Cemetary with centuries old graves,so old that some of the dates have worn off the stone.(I've spent hours searching, trying to find the oldest grave).

There is the famous landmark of the Monks Tower, with it's door about twenty feet off the ground. This was used by the monks as a retreat away from the invading Vikings,or Normans,& needed a ladder of sorts to access the tower. There is also a very old House & church on the site.

Beside the Cemetary,is the Glendalough Hotel & restuarant, which offers good value meals & snacks,& i believe, serves up a good pint of the black stuff.

The trip alone is worthy of a drive,as the scenery enroute is SO beautiful.Follow the N11 out of Dublin,& just follow the signs after Bray.

GALWAY CITY n the west of Ireland is a little gem of a city called Galway.I have relatives living there,so i often go there for a visit.

It's such a quaint city, that still holds it's "village" feel to it.That for me,is part of it's charm. There are lots of places of interest to see & lots to do there also.

Whether it be shopping on Shop street, visiting the Claddagh factory,Walking along the coast of Galway bay,or living it up in the many bars & restaurants,Galway really hits the spot!

There are also SO many places just outside of Galway that will attract your interest.Oranmore,Salthill,The Burren(Co Clare),The Cliffs Of Moher, are all within a short distance of the city,so it's a great base to seeing whats going on around it.

Again, like Dublin,Galway has become very multi-cultural,& cosmopolitan,so it has an array of restaurants & bars for whatever choice of food & entertainment you require. My favorite just happens to be O'Connors bar in Salthill,as it has that "Olde Irish" feel about it.There's plenty of Ceol & Craic to be had there almost every night of the year.My favorite place to be,outside of Dublin!!

THE LAKES OF KILARNEY,& THE RING OF KERRY chose to put these two areas together because they are virtually indestinguishable.

Both of these areas,in the South West corner of Ireland,i feel, are places of UNRIVELLED beauty.
There is SO much to see & do here there are seriously TOO many to list. The Lake District,The Dingle Penninsula,Valentia Island,The Blasket Islands,& all of the surrounding areas, are rich in places of interest, both culturally,& historically.

This is the REAL Ireland!!

Visit Dingle & swim or travel alongside the Dolphins, including Fungii & friends.Go for a cruise on the lake,or take a boat trip to the Blaskets.Tour around the Ring of Kerry to sample the sights & wonders that it has to offer.

Visit the "Fairy Forts" near Cahirsiveen on the way to White strand.Visit Muckross house to see how the other half lived so many years ago. There is just SO much to do,the list could go on & on.Wherever you go there, you will enjoy it!

I really can't do it justice here,so check it out online yourself.

These are just five of my top places to visit here, but there are SO many more places that you should go.I'll list them in another blog soon.

I was in Powesrcourt gardens at the weekend,& it really was fab!The gardens are so beautifully maintained,it's no wonder that so many families were there with their who were making their Communion. It's an ideal place for that special photo opportunity.

Thats NOT to say that it is over-run with ,it's not,but around this time is when you get alot of that going on.It really IS a place for adults & alike. The amenities are good,as there is a shop, restuarant & coffee-shop(Pricey), Toilets,a Golf course,& a Garden Center.

I'd go to Enniskerry for a meal,it's cheaper,but overall,it's a good day out!

I hope that you get to visit some of these places,& enjoy them as much as i do frequently.Have fun!

Hugs,

Places to find love...

Hi there,

Inspired by the song..(see previous blog)...I was wondering where do you think you would be most likely,or least likely to find love?

I think that most often or now i've found love when & where i was least expecting it.

Do you think it's possible to find love on the internet?

I think that bars & nightclubs would be the most unlikely of places, don't you?Basically because MOST of the time, people are just "on the pull",& looking for meaningless sex....nothing wrong with that of course, but it normally DOES'NT lead to love.

Sometimes joining a club can be a good place,or some place that you have people meeting regularly, like for example,a dance class, etc.

I suppose that work is also a good place to look.A high percentage of marriages happen between people who meet at work.I found someone,& fell in love whilst i was working in an office. We eventually got engaged, but it did'nt last.

That can be a hard one to take, afterall, you DO tend to see each other 24/7.I think it takes a very special kind of bond to be able to survive a working/living relationship. What do you think?

I think that meeting at a party,or being introduced by a mutual friend,is the MOST successful way of meeting that special someone. To start with, both parties have at least ONE thing in common....their friend,& an introduction is normally a good starting point. It's as if it's a recommendation from a friend to you.

Finding love in other areas like,"A Coffee Shop" or a chance meeting somewhere outside the norm,i think is really down to how brave you are.

Most of us need the courage to just walk up to someone & start chatting with them, let alone fall in love with them.Seeing someone from a distance,& making something happen from that, takes a great deal of guts,or a hard neck,or indeed a few drinks to reduce the inhibitions.

I wonder how many of us have found love in this way,& how many of us use the more conventional methods in finding that which so often eludes us for so long...LOVE.

Of course..these are just my opinions.I'm curious to find out what all of you think about it?

Feel free to leave a comment,i'd love to hear from you.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,& keep smiling!

Hugs,

Hi there,

It's been over a year since i last blogged here.

It's been quite a year.

Although i hav'nt written a blog for so long,i have remained in the background,& read your blogs.

I recently heard a song on my local radio station here in Dublin & i just can't stop playing & listening to it.

The song is SO melodic,& the lyrics SO simple,it's a song that REALLY grows on you.

I love the music,& the singer has a very soothing,& calming voice, just right for this song.

The official video for it is on You Tube,so check it out when you can.

The song is by a guy called Landon Pigg..(yes thats his REAL name)...& it's called "Falling in love at a coffee shop".

It gives me SO much pleasure to listen to it,& it reminds me of that special someone, that once was in my life.I'm sure that it will do the same for you.

It's a song that uplifts you,can be sad,(if you listen to it so much)but will always put a smile on your face.

It says exactly how i feel about a loved one,& conjures up so many good memories for me...i hope that it does just as much for you.

Send it to someone that means alot to you,a lover,or a friend.I'm sure that they will appreciate it.

As i have made so many friends on here,i felt it appropriate that i share this little GEM with you.

In my opinion...it's one of the best songs to be released in such a long time!

Let me know if you like it,or at least let me know what you think of it,& what it means to you.

I hope all of you are well.

Hugs,

Hi there all,Sorry that it's been such a long time since i wrote in my Blog.

I hope that you are all keeping well,& still having lots of fun.

It's been a hard few months, since Dad died,& it has taken alot out of me.

Mum has been in & out of hospitals since his death,& we recemtly found out that she has Cancer. She will be under-going treatment soon,& then some surgery in a few weeks time to remove the tumour.

So you see,it has'nt been easy.

So,my brother & i have decided to visit Las Vegas in August. We arrive in Las Vegas on August 18th,& leave on the 26th.We are staying at the Imperial Hotel.I hope that it is nice,& there should be plenty to see & do whilst we are there.

We hope to go to the Grand canyon,& catch a show or two.

Any other suggestions or ideas that you'd like to share with me,that might make our stay that little bit more memorable.....WINK!!!

Anyway, when i get back,I hope to ressume normal blog entries,& catch up with you all.

Hugs & kisses & the best of wishes to you all.

Things going around in my head at this time...

Hi there my friends. Thanks for dropping in.

I have just woken up again after some weird dream i was having about Da.I really can't explain to you why i'm having these dreams, but i'm wondering if this is normal in these circumstances.

I know that my blog has become a little morbid for you ALL to read lately, but there's alot going on in my head right now, alot of questions that i feel i want to know more about.

I'm SORRY if i seem to be dwelling on this & that i'm becoming a bore.

I increasingly find myself thinking about his LAST moments on this earth....he was in Cardiac Arrest,& was being resuscitated by a team of Doctors & Nurses.

I keep asking myself...

Did he know he was dying?

Did he feel any pain?

Was he frightened by what was happening to him?

Was he concious while all this was happening to him?...

& at what point did he,or his heart just give up?

I know that these seem to be strange questions to be thinking of,but i just feel that i need to know that answers.

It's kind of like....looking for closure on it all,for my own peace of mind.

If there any Doctors or Nurses out there reading this, maybe YOU might have some of the answers?

We got a letter from the hospital, offering their condolences,& in it they mention "Bereavement Therapy" in the form of councelling.I wonder if that might help me get SOME of the answers i'm seeking?

My friends,is it normal to feel this way?Does everyone go through this?

We missed his parting by NINE minutes...his death was called at 2.15am,& we arrived at 2.24am.....I Wish that i had been there with him to comfort him,& try to reassure him in his last few moments that i LOVED him,& that i will look after Ma for him, just as HE always did for over 47 years.

Again...I'm SO sorry if this is depressing anyone,i really do not mean to do that. It's just, being an only ,i kind of have no-one to talk to about it,& believe it or not...this is helping me.

I don't know which of the FIVE stages of bereavement i'm in right now.People keep saying that it gets easier...well i hope that i does start to get easier SOON...as i feel i'm going to go slightly mad...(although some people say that i'm THAT already!..lol)

Thank you for listening/reading...YOUR a PAL!

By the way,a good friend of mine sent me some notes on the FIVE STAGES of BEREAVEMENT,which are...Denial,Anger,Bargaining,Depression,& Acceptance.

If YOU have suffered a loss,& you'd like a copy of it,just write to me & let me know.I'll send it to you by email.

Thanks again!

Hugs,& a kiss to A/all

"Just a little hug".....

Here's a little poem that was on the LAST card that i sent to my Da,while he was in hospital.

I thought that i'd share it with you,& you can use it for a LOVED one or Friend, who you think might need it.

"Just a little hug"...

A hug can say,"I'll miss you,"
or,"I'll be thinking of you,"
It can say,"You're someone special,"
or best of all,"I love you."

It can sooth a hurt,or calm a fear,
or cheer us when we're blue...
It almost seems a miracle
all the things..a hug can do!

Hugs to you ALL!!!!

Is it ok to talk about it here?

Hi there my friends, thanks for dropping by.

Well...THAT was THE hardest week of my entire life!

I know that this is an adult sex site primarily, but i have made some very good & close friends on here.

I'm just wondering if it's ok to talk about things with you all.

The Funeral went VERY i'm so glad to say,i think that i did right by my dad.It was a traditional,& dignified ceremony.

I said a few words as a tribute to "My Da...The Smiler!",& included the song "Father & ",by Cat Stevens,in the mass.

Those are the only TWO things that i can remember about the mass.I was on auto-pilot while reading the tribute,& i NEARLY lost it,when the song was played.

You see, being an only ,it was ALL left up to me to organise. Not having been through it before,i tended to just run with my instincts in everything i did.

I'm kinda glad that i had to do it all,as i feel SO much better for it.There was plenty of people around my mam,so that freed me up to do what i had to do.

I think that i got the right mix of songs, prayers of the faithful, readings, flowers, hymns,& i think that i chose well with his casket......a BEAUTIFUL "Last Supper"(he died on Easter Sunday morning)...with 4 angels, one on each corner of the casket.I also tried to involve people from ALL parts of the family,so that not one person could feel left out.

I did'nt do anything for popularity,i just wanted to give him a good send-off...& i hope that i succeeded.

The weather here all last week has been wonderfully sunny,& on Thursday morning,it was SO bright,& SO warm, like a full summers day.We could not have wished for a better day to say our goodbyes.

He now lays overlooking the city of Dublin,& the sea, from the side of a hill, with a spectacular back-drop,of Mount Seskin, joining his brother,in everlasting peace.

May his Soul rest in Peace!

The reason why i'm chatting with you A/all here about this,(& i really hope that you don't mind me sharing it with you),it's because, all through the two days, everyone tended to flock around my mam,& i was kinda forgotten about, which is understandable,as it alot of her old friends & neighbours that were consoling her.

I did'nt mind that at all...but they kinda forgot that i needed a hug,just as much.I suppose they thought because i am a man,that i would'nt NEED it...but unfortunately...i did....& STILL do.

I'm SORRY if i am upsetting anyone with this...i just feel that i wanted to share it with you. It's helping me to be able to talk about it.

Although we are realtive strangers...i often at times feel that talking to strangers,is alot easier than talking to relatives about such matters etc.

So i hope that you don't mind?

I'm my last post i asked for a hug from you all...
I NEED a hug from you all..NOW more than ever.

I have posted thank you messages in each of the last two posts, collectively, rather than individually,i hope that you don't mind? It's just easier that way.

Although, when i get the time & feel up to it,I PROMISE to write to you ALL individually,to express my deepest thanks in person.

I THANK GOD that it all went so well,I think i did Dad proud......but i'd really like him here if the truth be known.

Maybe that just selfish of me....but i miss him!

My Da....The Smiler!

Hugs,

D. XXXX

Hi there my friends.I'm just writng to say that I will not be online & blogging again for at least another week or so.

My father passed away on Easter Sunday morning,so i will be up to my eyes enshrouded in family stuff for a while.

Please say a short prayer for him,so that God will hear your prayers & bring him to heaven.

He was a proper gentleman anyway...so i don't have any fear that he is anywhere, other than heaven.

May God bless & rest his soul in peace.

I LOVE YOU DAD!

Hi there my friends, thanks for dropping in.

Well thats just how i fell right now.I don't seem to be able to hold anything down.

Alot of the friends i've made here over the years just seem to have vanished, except for the loyal few....(THANK YOU to you all....you know who you are)

Perhaps i need to change something in myself?

Re-invent myself to look interesting again.

But i honestly cannot do that...i am who i am...!

How can i become MORE interesting? Do i need to change my appearance?Do i need to be more outrageous?

Do i need to NOT give a shit,in order that things may be different?

I can't be that way,because I DO give a shit!

SORRY....Having a bad day!...needed to blow off steam...rant over!

Hugs to you A/all.
