Half way to Spring

we are now half way between winter solstice and spring equinox.
this is considered a sacred day to the Celtic fire-goddess Bride
(Brigid, Bridget, Brighde, and many other names) ~ the virgin bride.
even though this, for some, is a harsh and bitter month, slow sure
signs of spring are upon us.

here in Portland, the days are growing noticeably longer.
at the winter solstice, Portland saw just 8 hours and 42 minutes
of daylight. on February 2nd, we now have 9 hours and 46 minutes.
and, we are gaining 3 minutes of daylight each day! when we reach
summer solstice, we will enjoy 15 hours and 41 minutes of daylight.

for those of you still in the grips of this all too bitter winter, just know
that spring is rushing toward you.

the photo of the daphne was taken on February 1st. the bush, residing
by our front porch is, by far, my most favorite flower. it announces
unabashedly with its glorious fragrance, "Here I am!"

Ooooh I'm so jealous ... March here and snowdrops, crocus, and daffies poking up ... but that's it. The rush of spring is on hold! But soon
