I think they still exist, but there are too many people in "reality" shows trying to build a brand and that's all you hear about. They haven't done anything that we should be taking notice of, yet they're in our faces because the TV networks want to promote these shows.

This was less a question than a chance to provoke thought in people that go through life like a mindless automaton. Few of us give real thought to the ramifications of our actions and almost none give any energy to personal growth along those lines.

We are all wound up in surviving day to day and while that is an important aspect of our lives, our quality of life suffers as does that of our family and closest friends. We become toxic, angry, fear laden and sometimes bitter individuals listening to what society is continually pounding into our heads through the media...much as you point out but not just from "reality" shows (which is twisted truth at best) but through "news" like FOX or MSNBC. Even credible programing has a hidden agenda and twists what they present as facts.

While I agree the young at heart/spirit idealistic people still exist, they much like the young idealistic politicians soon have any individual thought squashed because it doesn't fit someones idea of how we should all act/think.

I reality few if any of us are capable of individual thought, allowing others to think for us and plant their version of how things should be in our heads. That applies to not only those in politics, churches, quasi-social clubs but also the codependent people out there that insist you share their version of morality using peer pressure, guilt and fear to force your acquiescence.

Real growth comes from within and these days we have to create a sense of personal ethics, nobody teaches that anymore. A consciousness of how we affect the people and the world around us, we need to become that pretty picture we paint for everyone else to see instead of mouthing the words without conviction!

Whew...I'll put away the soapbox now!

Understood. And I agree with what you're saying about people getting caught up and not thinking for themselves. Frankly, if you see a story on the news, how many of us really have a lot of extra time to seek out other viewpoints on that story, read them, and formulate our own opinion? So, we have a few things we seek real answers to, but not everything.

BTW, if the soapbox is what you're on in the picture, then keep it.

Funny how we allocate time, we will take all the time in the world to do find all the info we need about something mundane we enjoy but we won't invest the same amount of time in researching something important that could affect us, our family and loved ones directly. Preferring instead to take what someone else offers as fact even though we know the source is questionable at best!

Thanks...I'll keep that soapbox handy! (Y)
