The truck came back from the shop with a new fule pump and lightened my wallet by 960 bones. Oh yay!

After too many hours of packing and sweating bullets, we managed to fit everything left in the house into one 26' Penske truck (I'm positive we overloaded the non-CDL weight by at least 8Klbs) and a 16' flatbed trailer. We had sopme help from a couple folks from the Bakersfield area HotMatch.com group, made a HUGE difference. Add on 2 days on the road, my spine is toast! Feel like someone is steadily bathing my back with a blowtorch,...
Thankfully we live next to a fomrmer co-worker from the Navy and he was able to connect me with one of the guys from my old shop and he came and helped us unload the rest of the truck. I was fairly useless with heavier lifting and Jamie overdid it and ended up with a blinding, make ya puke migrane headahce.

So anyway, at the moment we are peeling wallpaper and painting inside the house. Once that fun is over we can start moving our stuff inside from the car-port. Fun times all around!!

Soon enough we'll be able to get out and socialize again, and man we can NOT wait!
We'll keep y'all posted on what's goin on.

Yeah, I kinda sorta forgot to fill upo my truck, so today on the way back from the dump and picking up the moving van, it runs out of gas when Jamie is hittin the drive tru at McD's. Peters out and she has to push it out of there, calls me (can y guess what she called me? Hmmmm?), and I bring gs.
However, turns out it dont wanna start anyway. No fuel pump noise, lights are bein wierd, and the display wont show me what gear it's in. Not good,...
I found an ECM-B fuse blown before the tow showed up, decided not to risk it tho and drove the ol beast to the shop and dropped it off for them to look over in case there's something more to this fuse goin out than overspeeding the pump. If it shit the pump it's gonna cost around $900 out the door.
However, the good part is my fuel guage will FINALLY work again. Yanno, always lookin for that silver lining,...

Wheeee! *gag*

Pick up the truck tomorrow and the real fun starts! Happy happy, joy joy!
Wanna get the rest of the house packed up and ready to load by Wed at noon, then start piling it on the trasler and into the truck. Wish we could get some help loading this circus up, but ah well, not the 1st time I've moved like this, wont be the last (hopefuly not for the same reasons tho!).

IF all goes well, we'll be on the road Thursday morning & home Friday night.

Ok folks, we're comin back to the PacNW this week. Seein as I'm short on work and dont see that changing real soon, I (James) have a lot of time to do some photo sets. Been a while and I'd like to get some time in before work gets in the way again.

SO! Anyone needing some work done please contact us. I'd appreciate anyone that's willing to let me use some shots for my online portfolios on DeviantArt, OneModelPlace, and ModelMayhem (look up FreqOnnaLeash on any of those sites), but I'll happily do full private shoots as well.
Drop me a note if interested and in NW Washington or lower BC

Got back in today from the run to Oak Harbor at 6pm. I spent the night with freinds in OR on Tuesday night, got to ak Harbor at a decent hour Wed around 11am, unloaded the truck and went by the house. Took one look around and decided I REALLY didn't want to spend over 12 hours in an empty house by myself when I could be on my way back to my girls. So I headed back down the same day, stopped for the night at a rest stop in Southern OR, got up early and made it home without incident.
Buys us an extra day to pack, sort, clean, etc. We should have this place ready to go into the truck by the time we get it. We'll have to see how long it takes to pack it out and clean up tho, thats always the fun part. *gag*

OK, for those one or two folks that read this crap and care, the plan is thus: I'm heading North Tuesday mornin at 0-dark-30 for a quick turn-around flight. Taking stuff for storage and droppin it off, catch some sleep, then head back South the next day. Total time will depend on how long it takes me to unload the truck, I may not even stay the night in the trailer, but head back South the same night. I can make better time by myself as I can go a full tank of gas w/o havin to stop to piss, so I could possibly make the trip in three days vs. four. We shall see, gonna fucker me all up either way tho.

Next part of the adventure will start the 17th when we pick up the truck and transporter. I want to be on the road on the 19th, 20th at the latest, and HOPEFULY, I wont have to make an additional trip down for any remnants or to clean the place up a bit.

We've already had two viewings of the house and got the sign up in the front yard. No hits over the last 2 days, but it's early on yet. Plus we had to tell the realators to make a note the house HADC to have an appointment and give us a specific time for the viewing since we cant just go fuck off all day every day. Between needing to pack, clean, and not to mention the fact that Deni is having health issues that keep her at home,... Yeah, the sooner we piss off, the better.

We made it up and back w/o incident. The place in WA was in good shape, altho we need a new dishwasher and I have a pipe to fix on the kitchen sink. Otherwise, peachy!
We did goto Mi Pueblo for dinner Saturday night, and got to see a few folks (thanks for comin out!), and got to meet a new freind we've been chattin up on MySpace. Was good to get out and be amoungst people we know again.

The drive back to CA was fun, esp. after I picked up a flat-bed from our freinds in Oregon. It pulled OK, but it slowed us up alot and the milage went in the can. Then there was tackling the Sisqiou montains in the dark, and heavy rain. Joy! By the time we stopped in Red Bluff last night, I was BEAT. Even after a few hours sleep I'm still wrecked,...

Jamie is still dealing with her employers trying to get a transfer back to WA. That's going to determine when we do the move back North, but at the moment we may be back in town the 3rd week of March. I'm planning on taking a quick trip up again next week with the trailer so we can get my hot rod and a bunch of the crap that's going into storage up and out of the way, that will depend heavily on what happens with Jamies job tho. I really dont want to make another run South after we get the house moved. Might have to, but we'll deal with that when we get to that point.

As of now, the FedEx driver thing is is the only potential on the table. Not the best deal to start, but if my spine could handle it who knows.

Anyway, on to the topic of the day.
We all did some soul searching today, and based on a few things like crap air quality, increase in crime, my lack of funding to upgrade our alarm system (the police copter spends WAY too much time over here lately), and Jamies potential for getting attacked & possibly killed while repossesing furniture. Also the CA prison system is supposed to release about 10,000 prisoners to aleviate over population. Oh, and add in the fed just cut off thier funding for farmers to buy water and the state fund is down to 15%, so farms, jobs, and food prices are gonna start gettin hit hard soon. Just a bunch of piddly stuff that adds up to this starting to suck, so we're thinking it would be better to go back to WA and weather the storm where it's reasonably safe.
Seems like quitting to me, but my comceince tells me we're just spinning our wheels here and wasting what money we have left.
I did get approval to go in for the next step of VA rehab/training next week. But I'm not holding out much faith that I'll get enough to allow us to stay. Besides, I can use the same thing up in WA.

We are still going North Wednesday for a job conference on Friday and on to Oak harbor from there, and we're taking some stuff with us so as not to waste the trip up.
Of course I got some kind of tummy bug today so I'm up kneeling in the bathroom, putting my face, in a place, that was never meant for my face,...
So hopefully I'll be functional again by Wed morning,... Joy!

Pretty much sums it up. Employers are shedding jobs like Jamies new sheds hair (a fukkn lot!), nobody is hiring anyone unless they have a specific need and you'd damn well better meet eery last one of the criteria. 20 years in the Navy only goes so far, and these days, it goes to the unemployment office and stops.
I'm hoping I can get VA funding and goto school, would make life easier all around, AND make for better options when I do go to look for work again.

SO! Applied to several aviation outfits, airports, agencies, individual businesses, and between CA, WA, UT, & AZ, I got jack on the radar. I'm optomistic that something will come up, but the realist in me knows that if it doesn't pay at least $11 an hour, we're gonna have to go.

I'm taking Deni and heading up for the hiring conference in Seattle on the 27th & see what they have to offer me this time aorund. After that we're heading up to the house for a couple days, how long will depend on wether or not anything needs to be done around the house (like the hot water heater that may have shit on us).
Since Deni needs to see her Dr and we're gonna be there anyway, we're planning on leaving Tuesday morning. Might stay another day in case I need to visit a couple of the local places I applied to on base.

Gonna pick up a trailer from a friend in OR on the way back just in case. We're REALLY hoping something solid comes up before then and we dont need it, but if all I have is a min wage or temp job come March 23rd,... But hey, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it!
Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Here's the poop:

We are waitng for tax returns to come in and then we are making a budget, setting aside a chunk of cash to get us back to WA. We were thinking we should try and stay here in Bakersfield until we hit the bottom of the budget and then head North, but looking at it that's just throwing money away. We MIGHT make it till May, maybe June. The way things are collapsing around this state, not to mention the country, if we push our luck we could not only lose this house, but posibly lose the house in WA and be stuck here for a couple months until we can scrape, beg & borrow enough to get us somewhere else. All we know is what local housing we could afford on my retirment and Jaimes' income is not any place we want to live, we'd move to Ridgecrest 1st!

So, if I dont have something promising come the end of Feb, we're going to start thinning out the crap in our household and boxing things up. If there's nothing by the 3rd week of March we'll get the truck, load it up, and head on out before April 1st. We dont want to try taking I-5 in Nor-CA and Oregon this time of year, or we might be packing now. Once we get back up there and get settled, we'll just hope that our realtor can move this place quick (a place like this, in this area, at the current prices,... Yeah, it'll sell inside a month) and be done with it.
Assuming I dont get something here, the sooner we get back, the more money we'll have left, and the longer we can hang on without me working. We cant do that here without stopping payments on the house and fucking my credit up and losing my VA home loan eligibilty forever.

All of this is like a bad dream. This is an awesome house, and we wish we could have all of our great friends from up North come see us and hang out for a while. Some of you have been so open with your homes and we always wanted to return te favor. And here we are, looking at the hard reality, knowing that it could all be gone in two months.
Buzz-kill anyone?

Ah well, we still have eachother, a steady income (however small), and a good option just in case. We're doing a LOT better than some folks out there and we're damned thankful for it!!

OK, so I know some of ya actualy care and are interested in whats goin on. So, here we go!

No luck yet, altho it seems I may have abetter chance of geting into aircraft maintenance here than up in WA. I might get a call in the next week about a job at the airport. Not countin on it tho, so I'm still looking. Registered with three temp services and have one staffing agency to hit Thursday. Tomorrow I'm going to Mojave CA to hit up the fuck loa of companies there (including the one that built Spaceship One).
I've applied for VA rehabilitation funding, which if approved, would allow me to goto college for 48 months. I stopped by CSUB and talked to a counsellor today, it all depends on the VA and what they say.

Otherwise, I talked to our realator, and found that we could probably move the house rather quickly, but unfortunately thats because it lost almost $40K in the last month,... Talked to the bank as well, and they'll try to work with me as much as possible, if we have to I can cut the payments for a month or two to get the cash to head North. in the mean time, we'll just have to see what happens.

We're not planning on heading back to WA, but we're planning for the eventuality, JUST in case. IF thats where we end up, oh well, at least we have a place to go. So many other people out there dont even have that!

Sooo, what to update about?...

Job has been going well. I've got it to the point that even my hard case guys are working with me instead of against me. Been getting things to work better and it's starting to really come together. Too bad the boss's boss didn't hink so tho, I was terminated today.

My first temination! I'm so excited I could just puke!

Anyway, yeah, fun times around here. Jamie immediately had a panic attack and needed to leave work early (she's making up the hours tomorrow on her off day). Deni took it much better, untill about an hour later when she freaked out. Me, I'm just here. Took me about 30 seconds to respond when I was told, but overall it wasn't that big of a deal. I took it well and left on good terms with my boss and supervisor so at least I have a couple of good references if I need them. Probably wouldn't have gone that way if I'd freaked out on em.

So, we're starting up the backup planning and looking at where we are financialy. My retirement and disability can cover the mortage payment. I've got about $3K in the bank, would have a lot more if I hadn't bought some stuff for the house, not to mention Deni's B-day Saturday, but here we are! Have some things I'm going to have to change up, but overall it looks like we'll be able to hang on for a couple months if we absolutely have to.

I keep thinking how I messed up by buying, but the reality is the only places that offer month to month leases we REALLY dont want to live in, so we'd be locked into a lease and have to buy it out to be able to leave. At least with the house, if we HAVE to, we can put it on the market and see what we can do from there. We're still keeping the old place too, if it all goes to shit and we absolutely have to, we can head back North and start over. I'm also going to try & sell the big truck, see if I cant get at least $6K for it. If I cant sell it or get decent amount for it I'll just keep it at the old place till I can or things get better. Not exactly relishing the idea of going back to Oak Harbor, but at least there my retirement and VA bennies will allow us to live more of a normal life, even if we are back in that rat trap.

Good times around here. I'm writing some letters and looking up a few of the local places I canapply to. the girls are doing Denis' nails, then we're gonna have a couple drinks and watch a movie.
