Here we go again!!!!

It seems once one stressor in my life is over or resolved, another one rears it's ugly head! Just took a new job--stressing enough--and the new boss wants me to become a certifiedveterinary technician since the state of Florida does not recognize my national license. OK, so now I have to apply for the exam, have all my college records transferred, prove I am licensed in another state, have my national exam test score transferred, have the application notarized, get a photo taken all before December, 9th. Less than a month. Then I have to get a hotel room (the test is given only in Orlando which is about an hour and a half away, so I will go up the day before), lose the two days of work, hopefully find a hotel that allows pets (I would prefer to bring Emma. Never spent a day/night away from her)and is cheap enough for me to afford. All the while, I need to work full time and find time to study for the exam. I haven't had to study for such an exam in over ten years. I have forgotten a lot in those ten years. I have been looking over the one book I have and I might be in deep shit. The test is on January, 20th. This is insane!!! If I knew Florida did not recognize my national license I would have never moved here.

My idea of "help from above" is a sniper on the roof!!!

bootyinspectr has a good point in that you will have to brush up on the subject matter, but it is a rotten thing to find the national scores are not accepted in Florida. As you are already there though, make do with what you have, and sock it to 'em making sure they see how good you really are at your job.
On another note, perhaps finding out which states will recognize the liscense might be a good idea. At least that way you can get certificatiopn in them for the work that you want to do.
Finding a good motel though that accepts pets, now that can be tricky. I had to do that a while back and found Canada actually has more lenient places to stay with higher ratings than the U.S. It can be done though, if you look on line, you will find what you need. Just call them in advacne to make sure the web info is up to date so you don't find yourself sleeping in your car.
Good luck on the tests, and keep your head up, there are more than a few of us out here with faith in your abilities.

Thank you! I just got a study guide for the test and in the back they have all the states listed and what is recognized and what's not. My next move will be more thought out with that help. Thank you for your best wishes!

Don't worry, you haven't forgotten as much as you may think. Once you start reading it will all come back to you.

I'm sure they recognize your national license in Maryland.

And I just remembered I have to do 6 hours of continuing ed before the end of December for my national license. And pay for it, of course. Damn it all to hell. Just keeps piling up!

I went through that as a certified photogrammetrist - BUT, luckily a guy in the senior licencing area went to school in RI with a Chinese guy who was an old friend of mine! This coincidence got everything taken care of and I sent him (home address) a case of wine since he saved me travel, hotel bills, meals, etc. Worse I didn't have time to hook up with someone like YOU to make the trip worth it. They didn't even know what my area was, but still obsessed on re-licensing me and collecting the fee. Florida started this many years ago to discourage northerners from retiring and coming down here with their license and working cheap and part-time (retirees supplementing soc. sec.) which of course wasn't fun for the locals. They did this to engineers, surveyors, nail technicians, etc. The engineer/surveyor communitee lobbied and guess what? instant recognition! Reciprocity meant they spent less money and the old retirees never lived forever anyway!!! All I can say, kiddo is good luck! I will get my MOJO working for you and put a voodoo doll in the freezer so the statey will get a bad cold and cancel. Gordon
