Serious stress today

I have been up since 3 am seriously stressing. Today Emma, my dog (or better known as "my ") is having major abdominal surgery. She needs a cystotomy to remove bladder stones. She has had surgery before. When I adopted her 4 years ago she needs to have her left eye removed. But that was 4 years ago. She is now approximately 7 years old. The older the animal, the greatest the anesthetic risk.

I have been a licensed veterinary technician for almost 15 years. I have seen it all. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I was holding a 4 month old puppy for the doctor to induce--basically because there was no one available to hold for me to induce. She induced, intubated, and turned the over to prep for surgery and the was dead. Epi, CPR couldn't bring the back.

Another time, a different doctor brought her dog--a 4 year old Boxer-- in. Vomiting. Took x-rays and saw brillo pads in the stomach. I placed a catheter and induced, intubated, preppped and got on the table. 2 doctors doing surgery, an assistant, and me monitoring. 15-20 minutes in I could not hear a heartbeat. The was dead. Necropsy showed no abnormalities. I know "shit happens", but that's not good enough for me. I need a reason. The hardest thing I had to do was to walk into work the next day. I was not blamed in any way for what happened, but still felt I did something wrong. There was no other explanation. I quit that job within a month.

So, here I am faced with doing my own dog--again. Definitely stressing.

My idea of "help from above" is a sniper on the roof!!!
