Ain't no hill for a stepper

I had never heard that expression before today - so at least I got something out of my training class .

My self identity is still one of the put upon guy who works really hard but the world is harsh and uncaring so their efforts amount to a plate of beans , but I know that its not true anymore . I definitely was that for a long time in my life but no longer .

So I thought to myself "alright , instead of getting all moody an self-absorbed about this do something about it , if you want to be the dude who busts his ass for little or no reward just do it" . But the problem is that I see now that it's pointless . I think back to all those days of yore when I would work 65 hours a week and I had all kinds of plans and schemes about making things better and I wonder what was it all for ? I mean best case scenario is what ? The stock price of an evil company goes up one cent maybe ? So why did I feel so good about it ?

So you probably shouldn't define your self-worth by your job , but what should you define it against ?

I mean that's the question we've been asking for the last 50,000 years right ? So I might as well watch some NYPD Blue reruns and not worry about it .

Did you know that the oldest known worship site is over 10,000 years old ? I didn't . And that the oldest known figurine of a deity is almost 40,000 years old ? I didn't know that either .

When I was looking up what "no hill for a stepper" means I came across some other old timey sayings that we should dust off . Such as ;

"If you're born to be hanged you'll never drown" - This is an interesting one because it's basically saying that your fate is your fate and you can't avoid it , but also that it means other bad stuff won't happen to you ? You're supposed to say it when someone avoids disaster , I guess to be a buzzkill .

"Follow friets and freits follow you" friets are superstitions , which I'm going to say equates to negative thinking in these modern times . I don't know if I believe in the "power of positive thinking" but there DOES SOMETIMES seem to be people that bring bad luck on themselves by being perpetually morose . Although I could be mixing up the cause and effect here , maybe they act that way because of their sorry lives .

"Fools should never see work half done" This is a admonishment not to pre-judge . Which is always good advice . I'm pretty sure that's what did in Solo .

"Near is my kirtle but nearer is my smock" this is a way of saying "mind your business" .

In conclusion it turns out there IS rest for the wicked . Please adjust accordingly .

There are a lot words in the dictionary that have multiple definitions so why can't your self-worth be defined by multiple things .... one of which could be your job?

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Well allegedly the kirtle is close to your body but the smock is even closer
