Body image, the 9th Virtual Symposium
I know I'm average at best. Several women I have been with have said I am handsome, but I know better I've come to accept what I am and how I look, it ain't gonna change
Flashback to 197late something. I heard a girl in school...one of the hot girls...say out loud as one of the "hot" guys had just walked by "OMG he has such a nice ass!"
I wasn't involved, just passing by as well. But I thought about it later...weird....girls like a guys ass the way we like a girls ass?? It was then I realized I had no ass I never really thought about it before but man...completely white man's ass.
I didn't like that. It was bad enough I wasn't popular, chubby and had only a few friends, but now I don't even have an ASS!! I knew I wasn't going to be one of the "in" crowd because I was chubby but I didn't really care, I preferred doing the things I wanted to do plus I didn't have the other necessary "tools" for belonging to that "in" group...money, car, clothes etc.
Looking back I can see it certainly affected my self esteem... a thought inspired by another post earlier Being the first offspring from my parents I had no one to clue me in to certain things about growing up, thus I was a bit of an easy target for teasing, being chubby didn't help with that either
I suppose if I had someone to look up to while growing up I may have had a different outlook on certain things but I don't think it would have been much help. My own perspective about my body image was a negative one and it was reflected by my self esteem. Probably why I developed a sense of humour early on
These days I truly value my sense of humour as being quite above average and a great asset to my personality
I now know why I had to endure such body image issues when I was younger...it gave me something I value greatly today I have said many times 'Things happen for a reason, you may find out at some point or you may NEVER know the reason why, but there's a reason'. I now know
ASIDE from all this, I would like to mention something I noticed in a couple other posts about self image being imposed upon others. Unless it's a positive comment people should learn to just STFU. I'll never understand how an adult can say something so harmful to a , just wrong are to be nurtured in a positive environment, a place negativity does not exist

YOU are not ME....and I would be very surprised to find you are not thankful for that
Despite that troubling fact there is one thing both YOU and I have in common, in fact it's something EVERY HUMAN BEING has in common. Depending on your own views and opinions it may or may not be a fortunate thing the similarities end there.
As diverse as our planet Earth is I find it amazing the Human race has survived this long with greed, disease, famine etc. having been around since the beginning. With humans varying in color, size, shape, sex, brain power etc. it does not surprise me the state of society is what it is: The variables in those aforementioned categories making it possible for some people to take advantage of others
Until the Human race learns to accept diversity there will always be problems. Until the Human race learns to GET ALONG there will always be conflict. Until the Human race learns to work towards a UNITED GOAL...one of happiness and sharing/taking care of our home (this planet) .... there will always be unhappiness, misery, frustration, war, greed, poverty, bullying, coercion, theft...UNNECESSARY DEATH, etc. etc. etc.
Ever seen the movie The Abyss? The scene at the end where Ed Harris' character is inside the water creature race's "facility" at the bottom of the ocean... He asks them why they are going to cause mass destruction using their power to control water. They show him scenes of war and how Humans are destroying ourselves in various ways, ultimately affecting them as well. Do we really need messages like that? It seems like common sense would make examples like this unnecessary
*I had originally wanted to post a blog about this last paragraph on its own, but it is working just fine in this post. I had also wanted to use a few other similar Hollywood examples but have forgotten which movies show similar examples...help anyone? *
We all need to breathe oxygen, we all need to drink water, we all need to eat food. Most of us want companionship and I would bet my nuts we all want to be happy How come we cannot seem to figure out, as HUMANS, to accomplish this simple task?
BTW, the "one thing" we all have in common? In case you haven't figured it out, take a sharp object and pierce your skin with it

Fate....noun
1. Something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune; lot: It is always his fate to be left behind.
2. The universal principle or ultimate agency by which the order of things is presumably prescribed; the decreed cause of events; time: Fate decreed that they would never meet again.
3. That which is inevitably predetermined; destiny: Death is our ineluctable fate.
4. A prophetic declaration of what must be: The oracle pronounced their fate.
5. Death, destruction, or ruin.
Destiny....noun
1. Something that is to happen or has happened to a particular person or thing; lot or fortune.
2. The predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events.
3. The power or agency that determines the course of events.
Fate or destiny? By the definitions above it appears they are basically the same thing...destiny even being within the definition of fate
Ultimately the question is "Why am I here?" A purpose. We all must have one otherwise we wouldn't be here...would we?
This is something I contemplate on a daily basis. Wondering when my purpose will be fulfilled, when "my time" will be up. One thing I know for sure, I have not fulfilled my purpose yet because I have cheated death twice now
Will it be something nice I do for another? Will it be a positive example I set for someone young? Will it be saving a life? Will it simply be living long enough to provide someone else with inspiration? Will it be a chain reaction based off MY first move?...setting things into motion....ever seen the movie The Butterfly Effect?
We all make choices in our lives...many times throughout the day, which may or may not have some sort of effect on our overall lives....but we'll never know
Do you ever wonder what your purpose is?
What are your thoughts on this subject? Please, do not be afraid to share with the rest of the class

Two terrorists are in a locker room taking a shower after their bomb making class, when one notices the other has a huge cork stuck in his butt
"If you do not mind me saying," said the second terrorist "that cork looks very uncomfortable. Why do you not take it out?"
"I regret I cannot", lamented the first terrorist "It is permanently stuck in my butt."
"I do not understand," said the other
The first terrorist says, "I was walking along the beach and I tripped over an oil lamp. There was a puff of smoke and then a huge old man in an American flag suit with a white beard and top hat came boiling out. He said, "I am Uncle Sam, the Genie. I can grant you one wish."
I said, "No shit?"

Just a few minutes ago it finally clicked Sometimes I am amazed I am still breathing

Feelings...through the surface of the skin....
I love the way you feel on my skin
I love the way you caress every inch of my body, from head to toe
Bathing in you is one of the best things in the world....EVER
I love the way you give yourself to me, never ending and perfect every time
I love how you are always there for me, without fail, whenever I ask
Sometimes the feeling of your warmth over my entire body makes me shudder and gives me goosebumps
I love how sometimes you massage me and make my body feel rejuvenated
The freedom and comfort I feel when with you at the end of the day, when we are all alone, to become one with each other, basking in the moments we have together
I really love how you do not care in the slightest when I spend time with another
I love the way every part of you completely relaxes me as your hotness touches my entire body
And most especially I love it when you are there for me, just for when I want it
I love my shower

The following words are lyrics to a song to which I am sure some of you (us) can relate. This is read from the man's perspective, but I'm sure it can be the other way around too
The tides of change pulled us apart I feel a familiar pain It seems like years since we've loved Or even liked and that's a lonely way to be
Drifting alone in a sea of agony Your face I can't recognize Don't make this hard on us I will miss you if you just go away
I did no right you did no wrong Nothing left but wasted days I regret you leaving But I will never take you back
{her voice on the phone} You know what? It's over I just don't feel the same way as I used to We've been together forever, but it's over
Goodbye 1,000 times goodbye The thought never crossed my mind That this would be my last goodbye Let me put pennies on your eyes And kiss your lips one last goodbye My love 1,000 times goodbye
It seems nothing good is free A good thing cost much more than the price You were good but not that good Don't yourself now it's time to break up
Drifting alone in a sea of agony Your face I can't recognize Don't make this hard on us I will miss you if you just go away
I did no right you did no wrong Nothing left but wasted days I regret you leaving But I'll never take you back
{her voice on phone again} Don't call me anymore. It's just not. I don't feel the same way about you Its not as good as it used to be
Goodbye 1,000 times goodbye The thought never crossed my mind That this would be my last goodbye Let me put pennies on your eyes And kiss your lips one last goodbye My love 1,000 times goodbye
{phone conversation between him and her} Her: I'll always love you but just not like that Him: Like what? Her: I want to be honest with you.....I met someone else Him: You did what? Her:And I really, I really love him like I used to love you......Remember the time that I told you that I was going out of town for business?....Well I went to see him Him: You know what? You suck!
Goodbye 1,000 times Her, on the phone: You'll always have a special place In my heart you know that It's just I can't be with you anymore it's over Goodbye 1,000 times Things may not work out with him Goodbye 1,000 times And if they don't Goodbye 1,000 times Then I'll certainly call you Goodbye 1,000 times You mean a lot to me I still really want to be friends with you I love you like you're my brother Followed by the sound of a loud hang-up and a dial tone
Another great tune by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth fame
Although a bit morbid with some of the implications I am sure the message is clear
