All I want for Christmas? I kept thinking I really wanted a new bike. I wanted all the fancy bells and whistles. I kept telling myself this will make me faster. After all a new bike is basically 1 lb. less than my current bike. Yep that's all I would want for the holidays, is a new bike.
After an adult beverage, I realized if I really wanted to be faster, I need to work on my core strength. Yep all the speed in the world, starts with a solid core. So I slowly finished my beverage, tugged on my seat pants and headed to the gym.

I just spent a week of hunting the high country for elk. The weather was warm and dry. I t made for a difficult experience, I hunted in shorts and tennis shoes. Far from the best of times and yet boils dow t a family sanctioned event.

Stationary time

Stationary bike time. This month I have been swamped with work and softball tournaments. I've had very little time to do bicycle maintenance and get mu butt out for a ride. However, I do have the craving for exercise. So I force myself to head downstairs and jump on my stationary bike. I know it's just not the same as being outdoors with the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. However, it's a quick fix. I can strap on my headphones and get in a good hour work out.
If you have time constraints, remember your winter buddy. A stationary bike works wonders when your short on time.

Flat tires

Yep, flat tires. I hate the. There is never a good time to get one. They strike at the most inopportune time. Today was a quick ride to the garage to pick up my truck. Just a simple 5 mile ride. Half way through....you guessed it......a flat tire. A back flat tire at that. A double bummer.
Oh well, we have all been there. Get the tire changed and get back to riding. Fall is short and I need to r\enjoy each and every day.

It's finally coo enough to sleep at night. Don't let into a lull. There are stull plenty of warm days ahead, so keep your bike by your side.
Now is a great time to ride in the state park systems. Animals are moving about, so its a time to be outside and ride.

Its Hot out there

Yes its hot out there. I just got back from Phoenix where it was 109 both days. I started using the microfiber cooling towel that remains cool once soaked in water. It was a blessing. Those things really work. Next ride in hot weather, try it, it will keep you cool.

Finally nice weather to ride. Remember to carry an extra tube, there are plenty of debris left from winter on the road. Its better to have an extra tube then to walk your bike a long way out.

Enough already. These weekend snow storms are killing my riding time. This time of year I'm dying to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for me. At least I can go ride my trainer. It's not the same feel as my bike, but will do none the less.

Dying to get outdoors on my bike. Somehow the stationary rides get old. Spin classes can be fun, but just missing the actual ride. I like the rolling tires on the asphalt. The cool rocky mtn air in my lungs. I long for spring but know it will soon be here.

Winter is here and the cycling season is definitely slowing down. Now is the time to get your bike into the shop for maintenance. Make sure your chain is oiled, your derailleur is clean and functioning, and even look at retaping your handle bars. Now is the time to make your bike sparkling and clean for next spring.
