“Secrets” Is The Topic For The Eighteenth Virtual Symposium

This month’s voting saw some truly excellent electioneering for “Science.” Well done, campaigners! Your valiant efforts catapulted the topic into a solid… second place. “Secrets” was the blogosphere’s top choice for the upcoming virtual symposium’s topic.
As with all symposium topics, this one does not necessarily refer to anything sexual: Let Secrets reflect as wide a range of interpretations as there are symposium participants!
For those new to the virtual symposium: In short, it’s a simultaneous act of blogging. Anybody with a blog on this site is welcome to join in. Contributors create something – an essay, a cartoon, an erotic story, a memoir, a series of one-line aphorisms, an image collage, a photo montage, a poem, or anything else – relating to “Secrets.” At a pre-arranged time and date (see below) all participants post their contributions.

Feel free to take the basic idea of “Secrets” and stretch it to as wild an interpretation as you like -- the post should reflect you! Anything goes, as long as there is a trace of the original idea in the post.
On the morning of Sunday, April 3, all participants will post their creations and notify me via a post on my blog. Please, please, post ‘em to your own blogs early: I want to link to them in a central post here, but I don’t want to be stapled to my desk all day.
I'll be responsible for posting links to your blogs – I want to make this as effortless for participants as possible! Again, once you’ve posted, leave a note in the comments section here so I know to link to your submission. I will, of course, post latecomers… people do check back to see whether new participants have joined the symposium. But after the morning of April 3, I may not be updating the list as obsessively.
As for contributions themselves: The idea is to create something new, as opposed to using posts to respond to other posts (although the comments section will, of course, remain fair game). Leave a note in the blog comments, and I’ll use a post on this blog that day to link to all contributions.
First suggestion: Participants may want to refer to either the virtual symposium or the topic itself in their headline. Not a requirement – there are no requirements, save for originality and participation – but a suggestion which will let the wide blog community know what we’re doing.
Second suggestion: Consider using one of the larger sizes, which can be found in the box when inputting a post. I find the much larger sizes offputting and hard to read… but size 2, to my mind, balances having to squint and the vertigo-inducing larger sizes. (This post has been posted in size 2, for what it’s worth…) Of course, there’s always the trick of holding down the control button and hitting either the + or – keys, which for most websites serves to enlarge or shrink copy and images.
This is not a contest. No souvenir mugs will be sent, nor ribbons awarded. The idea here is for those interested to, on a single day, offer an interpretation of a single topic for the sheer fun of it.
By all means, encourage other bloggers to participate – and to let me know they’re doing so through this post, so on the morning of April 3 I can link to their posts. Oh, and please consider this an invitation – if not a request – to the symposium both on your own blogs, and in individual requests to bloggers whom you’d like to see represented. The more the merrier, right? There are some folks with very distinct voices on this site who aren’t yet participating – let’s bring ‘em in and make ‘em one of us, one of us, one of us!
Remember, of course, to keep things in your voice!
Every symposium, there are a few newbies who contribute posts, and don’t let me know about their contributions (I catch some by watching the “recent posts” feed, but that’s hit or miss). So… once you post, please leave me a note on the master list post, or here! (I get messages about the symposium which are attached to the blog a little faster than the ones which are emailed to me.)

Seventeenth Virtual Symposium: One Couple’s Realistic Take On Swinging For The First Time

This is a VERY LATE contribution to the seventeenth virtual symposium, an informal collection of bloggers who – purely for the hell of it – voted for a single topic (“The First Time”) and agreed, on or about February 28, to post their interpretations of that topic. Voting for the next topic has already started. Bad, bad coordinator who got his post in very late! I’ve read a few “my first swing club” stories in my time. Some were clearly written by people with an oversupply of Penthouse Forum columns and Jergens lotion and little hands-on experience. Others are doubtless real stories from people who went but who had no intention of playing.
And then there is the story of Fiona and Eric, as told in “Interview with a Woman Who Recently Discovered She Loves Group Sex.” Writer Jia Tolentino’s edited transcript, which is featured on The Hairpin site, provides what sure sounds a couple’s honest and well-written first-time swing club experience.
If the interview is any indication, Fiona and Eric have a fairly stable relationship, one which allows them both to discuss fantasies, including Fiona’s declaration of “I actually might be attracted to women,” and her husband’s response, “…f this is something you want to explore, you should be able to do that.”
Most likely, a big part of what made Eric so open was the sense that, as Fiona put it, “my whole fantasy life includes him. Or at least, once I opened up to him, it made it much easier for him to be part of every narrative… We were able to be on the same page, and articulate sexual fantasies that surrounded each other.”
Readers can fill in the litany of cautions for first-time swinger couples: Communicate, anticipate potential stresses, respect your partner, don’t get impaired, and so forth. Fiona and Eric established responses to those concerns – they’re in the piece – and ventured out to a club in Atlantic City, NJ.
They didn’t have an auspicious beginning. “We pulled up [to the club] and we see this couple outside in their fifties [Fiona was, at the time, in her late 20s] and the guy has a full-on ‘70s mustache, and I was like ‘Well, this is exactly what I imagined.’… I figured maybe I would have sex with my husband in this weird public place and that would be hot and maybe there would be a lady and that would be great too.”
That initial “ugh” moment was soon followed by a second. “We were immediately greeted by a receptionist, a much older woman who looked very much like she did not want to be there.” They paid -- $75 for a couple, $100 for single men – and entered the club.
The place was quiet, at first – Fiona had wanted to get to it early in the evening, so she and Eric could check it out before it filled up. At first, Fiona pointed avoided eye contact with other guests, but eventually she and a woman to whom she’d been attracted started dancing.
As the club filled up, Eric suggested that he and Fiona check out the upstairs bedrooms, if only to play together. “I started giving him head in front of a bunch of people, and then I got on top of him – I actually kept my clothes on then, and all night too—and anyway, this woman I’d danced with downstairs came in,” Fiona said. “She was really cute, this light-skinned African-American woman with a bit of an accent, and her husband was this giant black man, like a friendly bear of a human. They came in and she was like, ‘Would you like to suck my husband’s dick?’”
Forward? Yes. But not entirely out of swing club protocol. As Fiona noted, “I liked that she approached me, rather than her husband. And I looked at Eric and he was like, yeah, go for it, and she went and got him.”
Fiona did have a chance to play with the woman who approached her, which was another first for her.
Later in the evening, Fiona was asked by two different men whether she wanted to play with their wives. She found the experience of being approached by men off-putting. The good news? Both men took her rejection graciously. And Fiona learned something about herself in swinging contexts: “All I cared about was how they approached me.”
But as the evening went on, both Fiona and Eric began to explore wilder and wilder fantasies. Eventually Eric began offering his wife’s oral services to any interested takers (assumedly, although not explicitly stated, chosen from those whom Fiona might entertain playing with).
Before readers recoil, know that apparently this was within the realm of acceptable behavior between Fiona and Eric. During a post-evening conversation, Eric asked “Are you okay with the fact that I offered you to give head, without asking you beforehand?” Fiona’s response? “‘No, that was super hot.’ I wanted him to call the shots—I was into that. It’s part of our fantasy.”
So kudos to the two of them for their communication skills. And Fiona did have a pre-planned out, in that instance: The two had previously determined that “We’d talked about how if I didn’t answer a question he asked me it would mean no. But he did really read me correctly….”
Eric and Fiona played with each other at the club, but when Eric was given the opportunity to play with someone else, his time away from condom use – the two had been married for four years when they went on their adventure – got in the way. He’ll have a second chance, though: The couple “definitely” is going to a club (or, likely, has already gone: The interview was published in 2014) in their neighborhood.
Fiona’s last word on her first time? “Any ground rules that you need to set, set. Just know that you yourself can change those ground rules in the moment, too, if you find that you need to—and make sure you’re clear with your partner about that, and vice versa.”

Welcome to the seventeenth virtual symposium, an informal collection of bloggers who – purely for the hell of it – voted on a single topic ("The First Time") and agreed, on or about February 28, to post their interpretations of that topic. It's early on Symposium Sunday, and I've already seen some wonderful and wide-ranging interpretations of the topic.
First, a public service announcement: Some folks find the default font size for long blog contributions small. Others find the much larger sizes offputting and hard to read… but I could see size 2 being a compromise. (This post has been posted in size 2, for what it’s worth…) Of course, there’s always the trick of holding down the control button and hitting either the + or – keys, which for most websites serves to enlarge or shrink copy and images. Whether or not folks decide to use the larger sizes is purely a matter of personal taste, and has no bearing on symposium eligibility.
As for the symposium itself: there are no prizes or awards, save for the opportunity to build a more-closely knit blog community. All bloggers are invited to participate in this, as well as all future, virtual symposiums. To participate, watch this blog for future symposium topics: We offer one per month.
The rules, such as they are, are simple: Once the blogosphere voted on a topic, all bloggers were and are invited to interpret the topic as loosely as they choose, and offer any type of post they like which either tangentially or directly addresses the topic, whether through fantasy/fiction, essay, photographs, image collages, poems, one-liners, or any other form they choose. Contact me through a comment on this post to be included on this list, which I will update as new participants make themselves known.

Planned Swing Club Attack By Isis Thwarted By French Police

French police arrested six individuals with ties to radical group Isis in early February. The six had been planning attacks against French swing clubs, according to “Arrested: Suspected Islamic State Terror Cell Plotting Attacks On Swingers Clubs,” which appeared on the Breitbart web site.
Naturally I’m delighted that the attacks were halted before they could take place. One has to wonder, however, how the group imagined it would pull off such attacks. According to both Breitbart and the International Business Times, the group consisted of five men and woman.
Most swing clubs offer limited access to single men: On days when single men aren’t welcome, many clubs have strict “couples and single women only” policies.
One can imagine the internal squabbling over which of the male crusaders would have drawn the duty of accompanying the lone female representative. They might well have wiped each other out before even starting their attack.
If anything, there would be double incentive for the men. French clubs, unlike their American counterparts, serve alcohol… and it’s not hard to imagine the would-be attackers giving in to multiple indulgences. The 9/11 attackers are known to have thrown money around in strip clubs before getting on the airplanes.
There’s a question, however, as to sincere the attackers truly were. According to the Breitbart article, “…all had purchased bus tickets to Syria via Bulgaria and Turkey – presumably because they planned on escaping to join IS if they were not ‘martyred’ during their attack.”
Aha! And if they could claim to be lost in the attacks, assumedly they could melt into the French swing scene, enjoy a bit of the lifestyle, and only be out the price of a bus ticket to Syria.
It could be that Isis is irked at the swinger community having coopted its name. As earlier noted (Whats In A Name For UK Swingers Club Isis Quest, Filthy Lucre) the brand has proved a boon to swingers looking to get it on under its umbrella.
There was no word on how intently French authorities are doing door-to-door searches of the estimated 500 clubs located throughout the country. French swingers must surely be sleeping better tonight… if they’re not too busy using their beds for other purposes.

Many of you are aware that there’s been a site glitch in which posts are seemingly deleted. While its exact causes are yet unknown, it seems that one of the triggers is putting numerals – any numerals – in the title of one’s blog post. In short, if you have a reference to the 16th Virtual Symposium in your title, please change it to the Sixteenth Virtual Symposium. Similarly, apostrophes and other punctuation may or may not trigger glitches.
Kudos to [blog KtMnDu] and redrockrascal for identifying and staying atop this glitch. Their efforts are part of the reason we’re able to host the symposium at its schedule time.
Finally: WOW! The sixteenth symposium is officially only eight hours old, and save for the first one, we’ve SHATTERED the record for first-time participants. To our newbies: Welcome, welcome, welcome! Watch this blog so you can stay up to date on the next voting – help us choose the next topic in three weeks or so. To the veterans: You know what to do…

Sixteenth Virtual Symposium: Swinger TV Show Stars Are Without The Benefit Of Lifestyle Friends

This blog entry is part of the sixteenth virtual symposium, an informal collection of bloggers who – purely for the hell of it – voted for a single topic (“Friends With Benefits”) and agreed, on or about January 31, to post their interpretations of that topic. A continually updated list of participants will be linked from here soon:
A while back I wrote about “Neighbors With Benefits,” a television show that purported to bring the lives of real swingers to the small screen. (AE's Swinging Show Cancelled After Two Episodes Moral Pressure Or Poor Ratings) By all accounts, it was a pretty horrible show, and chances are that, as opposed to external pressure, was the reason the A&E network killed it after airing only two episodes.
At the time of the show’s cancellation, there was some question as to whether the participants were, in fact, residents of Hamilton County, Ohio, where the show were set, much less whether they were actual swingers.
The group certainly doesn’t seem to have been made up of friends, with or without benefits. Friends pull together in times of need. There’s a wonderful example of that here in the blogosphere: NaughtyInSO often features tales of how one of her social circles regularly pull together for meals, celebrations, and to stand strong as a unit in times of crisis. Whether or not sexual activity is included is left to the veil of discretion.
At least one family featured in “Neighbors With Benefits” would benefit from such an arrangement. Per a story that ran in the Cincinnati Enquirer, Tony and Diana McCollister seem to have a lot of regret about appearing on the show. While the article, “How do swingers move on after reality TV exposure?” is unclear about whether they still swing, it does mention that they’ve stopped hosting parties.
The story goes out of its way to portray the couple as very much the folks next door. It describes a home decorated by photos of their three , including the trips (all vanilla) the family has taken. Diana even refers to herself as a “Pinterest Mom,” in hopes that her indulgence in a fairly pedestrian online activity will showcase that she is more than just a swinger.
Unfortunately, Hamilton County doesn’t seem to want to let the McCollisters, or their costars, forget an otherwise unforgettable show. According to the article, “After it aired, one of their castmates' got teased on the school bus. People said her should be taken away from her. A petition was circulated around the subdivision to kick them out of the neighborhood.”
This despite, as Tony claims, “just about every family in the neighborhood has a certain sex toy based on our recommendation.”
Perhaps the most telling aspect of the difference between “Neighbors With Benefits” and friends with benefits comes in another comment from Tony.
“‘I actually hate most swingers,’ he told The Enquirer. ‘If swinging is the most interesting thing about you, then that's sad.’”
Hate most swingers? Ouch. Like any other social interaction, getting to know people takes time… and a willingness to explore depths beyond sex. It’s true that swingers who are friendly with other swingers have the opportunity to talk about subjects they can’t talk about with their vanilla friends. But vanilla topics – work concerns, (and often grandkids), medical conditions – these are as much fodder for conversation among folks who swing as they are for folks who don’t.
Diana sounds a bit less antagonistic toward the swinging community. According to the Enquirer, “She initially agreed to do the show, in part, because she wanted to clear up misconceptions about the swinger lifestyle” – namely, that swingers could be people next door. But they can also be friends… and it would have been nice if the Enquirer had presented evidence of the swinging community supporting the McCollisters – if, in fact, the swinging community did.
And if not, was it because the McCollisters drew the definition between play partners and friends?
When those distinctions are allowed to blur, strangers one fucks occasionally turn into people who, once you've had a lovely experience with them, turn out to be people with whom you can have a love conversation. There are times when people who know each other get together for drinks, or meals, or cooking together, and end up fucking. They've spent a few hours around a table eating, drinking, talking, laughing... and then they play.
Hell's bells, there are even occasions where, if the food and conversation is good enough you end up looking at a clock and saying "Hey, that was fun, but it's late – let's save sex for another time." Yes, that really does happen!
I hope Tony and Diana are able to salvage that part of their swinging activities. If they were limiting themselves to sex and moving on that’s fine, provided it works for them. But it sounds as though these neighbors – who really do come across as basically decent people – could have used a few friends with benefits.

Do Not Use Numerals In Blog Post Titles!

Hello, all:
Kudos to [blog KtMnDu], who has, through trial and error, been trying to figure out why posts are being deleted.
It seems as though the system is currently having problems with titles that have numerals in 'em. Simply put: For the time being, don't use numerals in the titles. Spell 'em out -- and that goes for ordinal numbers (don't type "16th" -- use "Sixteenth" instead) too.
Apostrophes may or may not be throwing things off as well...
Another valiant warrior, Redrockrascal is also doing his best to root out causes,. Check out this post Misdirected Posts and Customer Service which will detail his dealings with customer service.
*Sigh* Can't say WHY this is happening... but it is. So... modify behavior accordingly. Spread the word. And give [blog KtMnDu] some love for his work on this.
Oh, and... if you have access to the posts which are seemingly deleted, try using the edit function, change the title if it has a numeral in it, and see whether you can make the post reappear.

“Friends with Benefits” was the blogosphere’s top choice for the upcoming virtual symposium’s topic. “Fetishes” was once again a bridesmaid but not a bride, and “Vocabulary” made a strong showing and will definitely be an option offered again soon!
For those new to the virtual symposium: In short, it’s a simultaneous act of blogging. Here’s how it works: Anybody with a blog on this site is welcome to join in. All choosing to participate will create something – an essay, a cartoon, an erotic story, a memoir, a series of one-line aphorisms, an image collage, a photo montage, a poem, or anything else – relating to “International Intrigue.” At a pre-arranged time and date (see below) all participants post their contributions.

Feel free to take the basic idea of “Friends with Benefits” and stretch it to as wild an interpretation as you like -- the post should reflect you! The last thing we need is a dozen monotonous texts on the same topic. Anything goes, as long as there is a trace of the original idea in the post.
On the morning of January 31, all participants will post their creations. Please, please, post ‘em to your own blogs early: I do want to link to them in a central post here, but I don’t want to be stapled to my desk all day.
I'll be responsible for posting links to your blogs here – I want to make this as effortless for participants as possible! Once you’ve posted, leave a note in the comments section here so I know to link to your submission. I will, of course, post latecomers… people do check back to see whether new participants have joined the symposium. But after the morning of January 31, I may not be updating the list as obsessively, especially if I’m waiting at the “Returns” line at my local department store.
As for contributions themselves: The idea is to create something new, as opposed to using posts to respond to other posts (although the comments section will, of course, remain fair game). Leave a note in the blog comments, and I’ll use a post on this blog that day to link to all contributions.
First suggestion: Participants may want to refer to either the virtual symposium or the topic itself in their headline. Not a requirement – there are no requirements, save for originality and participation – but a suggestion which will let the wide blog community know what we’re doing.
Second suggestion: Consider using one of the larger sizes, which can be found in the box when inputting a post. I find the much larger sizes offputting and hard to read… but size 2, to my mind, balances having to squint and the vertigo-inducing larger sizes. (This post has been posted in size 2, for what it’s worth…) Of course, there’s always the trick of holding down the control button and hitting either the + or – keys, which for most websites serves to enlarge or shrink copy and images.
This is not a contest. No souvenir mugs will be sent, nor ribbons awarded. The idea here is for those interested to, on a single day, offer an interpretation of a single topic for the sheer fun of it.
By all means, encourage other bloggers to participate – and to let me know they’re doing so through this post, so on the morning of January 31 I can link to their posts. Oh, and please consider this an invitation – if not a request – to the symposium both on your own blogs, and in individual requests to bloggers whom you’d like to see represented. The more the merrier, right? There are some folks with very distinct voices on this site who aren’t yet participating – let’s bring ‘em in and make ‘em one of us, one of us, one of us!
Remember, of course, to keep things in your voice!
Every symposium, there are a few newbies who contribute posts, and don’t let me know about their contributions (I catch some by watching the “recent posts” feed, but that’s hit or miss). Swinger Party Host’s Nose Broken After Guest Couldn’t Find Trousers

A simple set of lockers – or even a rack of baskets – would have avoided nearly U.S.$7,000 in medical fees and a multitude of troubles for a Lancashire, England IT professional.
Folks who have never attended a swing party might not be aware of a small-but-significant concern: By such parties’ very nature, guests are going to spent considerable time away from their clothes and wallets and other valuables. Some bring little pouches for condoms, lube, and anything else they might need: Swing parties might be one of the few places on the planet where fanny packs are not sneered at, although readers may wish to translate “fanny” into whatever appropriate terminology is used in their location.
All that is a longwinded way of saying street clothes and the rest have to be stored somewhere. Larger clubs often provide lockers or locked baskets for their guests, with keys on loops that can be worn around the wrist or ankle, as is a guest’s wont. Smaller events usually rely on an organizer or worker to guard a room or pile of personal items.
The latter system usually works out reasonably well. By “reasonably” it means that guests don’t mind a few disappearing items which are genuinely lost. In-home party hosts often wind up with a collection of undergarments or unopened condoms scattered around. The former are usually held in hopes that guest will call and claim them, while the latter are usually placed in communal condom jars.
But everyone once in a while something goes missing which is so significant that its loss has to be resolved immediately. This was the case for Thomas Wardrop, an IT professional who, according to the UK’s Sun newspaper, got himself good and racked up on booze, cocaine, and play during an all-night orgy, only to realize in the harsh light of morning that he couldn’t find his trousers.
Wardrop had every reason to be concerned: His plight, per an article in the Sun titled “IT boss battered swingers party host when he couldn't find his trousers after all-night orgy” meant that he’d be showing up to his home without his pants. This would doubtless have been confusing to his wife, who hadn’t attended the party with him. Seems the woman Wardrop had brought to the party wasn’t his spouse.
Upon realizing his dilemma, Wardrop took actions which must, in his altered state, have seemed perfectly conducive to apparel-finding: He began punching and head-butting his host, breaking his host’s nose in the process. In court, the party host presented a medical bill for 4,800 pounds – more than U.S. $6.800. The host also claimed that he and his wife had to redecorate after the party in order to clean the bloodstained floor and furniture.
For want of a pair of trousers, Wardrop’s wife left him, the courts handed him a 21-month jail sentence suspended for two years with 250 hours of unpaid work, levied a 2500-pound fine (nearly U.S. $3,600) and a slapped him with a 12-month driving ban. He also, according to reports, managed to rack up 50,000 pounds (U.S. $71,300) in credit card debt, although the article didn’t say whether this was due to lost wages, divorce costs, or both.
Side note: There’s a lovely apparel store close to Wardop’s home in Buckshaw Village, Lancashire called Nigel Clare. A decent pair of men’s trousers will run between 70 pounds and 140 pounds – and the traditional English reserve means that while shopping in one’s pajama bottoms might not go unnoticed, it probably would go uncommented on. Another 70 pounds fetches a lovely “reet” men’s shoulder bag.
