YAY! Things are getting tighter and tighter here in MN - they just came out with a new budget forecast with of deficit in the billions The job losses have resulted in a precipitous drop in payroll tax revenues to the state. I'm so glad your organization dodged a bullet!

Good thing ya ain't located in CA, we... Most of the peepz who were homeless, have some vacant houses to live in... but all the previous homeowners are runnin' out of bridges. Of course, once the O-Man gets his Jobonomics a-goin', those previous homeowners could actually end up bein' hired on to build a few more overpasses... for the rest of us to sleep under. I'm truly glad, though, that things worked out, we. Solar...

You dodged the bullet this time, WE. Or rather, your agency dodged it. You're right, the politicians float trial balloons, and if not enough people make a stink, the cut sticks. Your people were loud enough, and numerous enough, that your cut did not stick. Hugs to you Chas

In our local community, we have a thrift store where the proceeds go to supporting an animal shelter. People here donate all sorts of second-hand items to the store vs. selling them on garage sales. Volunteers staff the store so there is no labor cost. A generous businessman in the community provides the building and the utilities. Consequently a high percentage of the proceeds goes to the animal shelter. A side benefit is that low-income people have a store where they can buy second-hand merchandise at very low prices. Just wondering if your agency could begin developing some idea like this in order to produce revenue so that eventually you would be more self-supporting. By the way, those unpaid volunteers could come from your unemployed, homeless folks. They would be helping to "earn their keep" thus rebuilding their self-esteem and work ethic and hastening the day when they would return to the ranks of the employed. Happy holidays sweetie!
