You're asking the wrong crowd, it seems, WE, as I'm older that you even (does that make me prehistoric dirt?). I had to google Lady Gaga to have any sense of who-what-where.

Good music? I've got LOVEGAME playing right now; electronica - ? No, it is not anything I'll rush to find more from the same artist.

In the end, I guess we just have to realize that once we achieve full adult status, we also tend to ossify in our musical tastes. My parents never undersood rock and roll; my grandfather never understood the big-band jazz that my P's liked.

I certainly don't like all that my kids like, either; I suspect that they are hardening in their tastes now.

Maybe Smarty can enlighten us.

Chas

She is one of an elite few performers nowadays who DID NOT reach their status via 'reality tv' contests. It's refreshing in a way.

With that being said, I don't listen to her music.

wickedeasy replies on 10/1/2009 11:19 am:
how would you classify her music?

Ooooh TC47 is giving me way too much credit - I've never heard of her. Guess I'll have to go check her out over on the utube...

I got a few clues, we...

Born, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta [Solar ponders: Who in hell uses four freakin' names, anyway, but an aristocrat]... Lady Gaga's "inspired" by the likes of David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Madonna--or so they say. She is also inspired by fashion, which she claims is an essential component to her songwriting and performances (hmmmm...)

She attended the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. There, she studied music and improved her songwriting skills by composing--are you ready?--essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion, and socio-political order. So, let me get this straight: we have us a poster-child who embodies the look and feel of the socio-political order of religious art to come?

To quote the not so high-schoolish hooker in disguise (with diamonds):

"When I'm writing music, I'm thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. [Solar ponders, yet again: Is this that socio-political order thingy?] It's all about everything altogether--performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it's everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us."

Further evidence of her brown-out brain power can be found in Gaga's description of Rainer Maris Rilke as her "favorite philosopher", commenting that his "philosophy of solitude" spoke to her.

To get to the heart of the matter, this mini data-collective presents us, inexorably, with a preponderance of evidence that proves the evolutionary advance of a reasonably stable reality toward that "new world order" coolness of coolness (aka: pseudo-unity of brown-out powered gray matter)--which was prototyped by punk-rock of the '80s and foisted off on an unsuspecting yet up-and-coming super-fan base as the fully debugged pre-production release by the electro-techno Europops of the '90s--is, regrettably, alive, well, and flourishing in LA; and wearing Versache rejects.

Some say she's a Gwen Stefani knock-off in the bust of Madonna. Personally, I can tell you this much: I'd do Gwen (Madonna's out of the question--she ain't no MILF in my book) in a heartbeat. Lady Gaga? I wouldn't feed her to my dog. But, then: he knows jive when he smells it.

In summary, Lady Gaga is nothing more (or less) than a Britney Spears wannabe, in a poorly fitted Playboy bunny-suit--minus the tail and ears--sporting a lot less innate class, I might add (is that possible?)

I hope this helps, we.

Solar...

In the 50's willing groups and individuals were given a song the produce thought would fit them, given a back up band. 1,2,3 - sing! If it hit they toured the circuit until they didn't bring in a crown and were discarded like yesterday's news. A very rare few had "talent" and an even rarer few had something more, unexplainable, but connected with the audience and they became stars.
Today, the industry has come full circle. Anybody can record and put a CD on the internet, but again it's the producers who get their latest finds big publicity which distinguishes them from those trying to flog their CD's at shows and over the net by themselves. The media wants "outrageous" so they throw Lady Gaga on the wall and see if she sticks. If she can make money, they'll prop her up, if not - yesterday's news.

Thank you, Solar, for sharing that info.
