I just realized something...

Why is it that my poems take on the first person perspective, yet the short stories that I write speak from the third person? Both come from my mind, both are based in my reality, yet I separate them as if I'm somehow distancing myself from the stories. They're both written from experiences that I have had in my life, so why the different perspective?

Hmmmm... I am truly puzzled by this, now that I take the time to actually think about it. I'd never noticed before tonight, but I'm now taking the time to go back through my older work, it's always been this way. The very first poem that I wrote in 2001 was in first person, and the first short story I attempted in 2003 was in third. What the honest f@#k?!?

I guess it's time to get all introspective on myself...

Not exactly my most creative blog... it just bothers me, and I felt like sharing.

Do the subject matterof your poems varywidely from your prose? That might be why your perspective shifts.... Maybe?

Legally, it's questionable. Morally, disgusting. Personally... I like it.

Your body may be a temple, but mine is a playground.

Think weird things happen to you? I beg to differ: If a bear shits in the zoo

A small something to add

The subject matter for both tends to vary widely for both. It all tends to change as time goes by, and I live through new experiences. I draw on each new chapter of this life for my inspiration.

Well, I would suspect that poetry is emotional and comes from within. Stories can more easily be projected. Maybe, lol.

I think that you could be touching close to the reason here.
I've been thinking that it has to do with my intended audience. My stories I tend to write for others, as a way to share my experiences through my eyes and in my words. I'm thinking that I use third person as a way to allow the reader to see themselves in my shoes, and somewhat make it less my story.
My poetry, while meant to be read by others, has also always been more for me. As a way to put emotions that I'm feeling to paper, and allow me to see them, as well as feel them. My own personal form of therapy if you will.
That's the best answer I think I'll come up with tonight.
