SexAddictDon ... what's in a name?

This time, "it is going to be different". Yes,honestly that thought ran through my head while signing up for this site once again. My last one or two profile names were not available, so making a swift decision, was chosen as my profile name! What is it with people making any judgement by a name. Well yes,you will find me in agreement that many books are purchased by their titles and set aside when the reader finds out it is not what they expected. Lucky for me, maybe it is my age, my ethnicity or older average guy looks have all but prevented me that kind of mistake from happening here online .. lol.

With a straight face no you would not today, consider me a sex addict in the least bit. As an ex-swinger, from the late seventies and into the early eighties, many of my college / social friends (who were not in the swingers lifestyle) called me perverted and/or sexually adventurous. Any one or maybe all of the girlfriend(s) during that time might have called me a "dog", "cheater","immature", "childish", "unwilling to commit" and even a "freak", due to my patterns of meeting women in the bars and clubs around Los Angeles and Hollywood. It was a fun time of my youth running around and partying at the Osko's (or in the movie TGIF "Zoo") nightclub on La Cienega, spending time at the Roxy on Sunset, The Rainbow room, The Circus on Lexington, almost all of the Red Onions around the city or even later on Dillion's in Westwood (Gayley). How much fun our younger years are!

Several year ago, when I was dating Cheryl (if you want to call fucking a few times a week dating), she saw me writing and looked over my shoulder and realized it was an erotic story. Cheryl asked, if porn was a staple of my diet and if she looked would she find any in the apartment. Laughing, of course she would find porn in my apartment. Several of my and a few friends were or currently are adult performers! One or two are porn directors / producers! So at one time there must have been 20-25 unopened DVD's laying around in a drawer or closet. Cheryl called me a sex addict and that my " addiction " would cause her some trouble.

Yes, in case you want to know, sobriety / 12 step program is a large and thankfully lasting part of my life, so addiction is a word that is not used by me lightly (25 years this past Aug 18th). When she was asked, how did she defined that term [blog californiadon], she used a dictionary definition; a state characterized by compulsive participation or engagement in sexual activity, particularly sexual intercourse, despite negative consequences. When I started laughing, she did not think it was funny. Yet today, that is where my current profile name was born.

What is a sex addict to you? How would you define one? Would you or have someone ever called you one?
