3rd Party candidate...

With the election race looking as close as it seems to be can you folks who are saying you are going to vote for the third party or not vote at all really afford to take that position?

If say 5-10 percent of the voters vote for a third party candidate and this winds up being like the 2000 Bush Gore election can you live with the decision? Will you be proud to say "I voted Johnson" or I didn't vote?

Just a reminder to the Republican voters out there as a public service announcement. Due to the expected overwhelming surge in Republican voter turnout the Republican party has decided to move the date of the election for all Republican voters to Wednesday November 9th 2016. It is anticipated this will reduce the length of the lines and shorten the waiting time to at least half to cast your all important vote for the revered Donald Trump. The added benefit is there will be no Democrats in line to annoy you.

You should have added that this was Trump's idea to change the date.

They seem to believe anything if they think TRUMP said it...

Damn you're right I will have to remember that when I do an update notice.

You know if someone tweeted it to Trump he would probably repeat it or should I say retweet it.

I'm not sure we can say reliably that the election is close. I know there are polls to predict these things, but polls DO lie. You'll recall that many, many polls last time convinced Mitt Romney that he would be elected president. In our own Michigan primary this year Clinton was forecast to trounce Bernie Sanders by twenty to thirty points. Both polls were wrong.

And as for being a laughing stock, I'll take that if it means I can avoid choking down haggis and pretending it's food.

(All meant in good fun, of course. I could have got nasty and mentioned Brexit, but I opted to just make a joke of it instead. )

I'm hoping the polls are wrong but I know Hillary isn't very popular and she and the DNC have pissed off a lot of new voters who don't have the history and bigger picture view to know the cost of making a statement vote.

He actually seems to think I'm a Trump supporter... I understand he's not from here so I didn't go hard on him. Ignorance can be bliss sometimes but it won't be for him or the rest of the world if Trump does win because people here vote for a third party candidate. Sometimes it helps when you can see beyond the end of your nose.

I kind of made a comment to that effect regarding the laughing stock issue.

This goes at the heart of what elections are about - are you voting for your preferred candidate or your preferred administration?
I've also been a realist when casting my vote in that I want my vote to make a difference so sometimes I vote for a candidate not my first choice because I know that candidate can't win.

Hillary has been a fool and essentially disappeared and has been leaving Trump to gain in the polls at a cost she can't afford. I hope she is sharp for this debate and knocks Trumps socks off. Leaving him standing there bliblibliby with his asshole looking lips.

This definitely isn't the election to waste a vote on anything but one of the two top contenders.

I think the world will be happy when this election is over... as long as Trump doesn't win anyways.

Johnson: "What is Aleppo?" ... He's almost as ignorant as Trump, although not quite as big of an asshole. .. I have trouble understanding Libertarian logic sometimes.

Stein? ... Sadly, my feed is full of people raving about her. .. But she panders to the anti-vaxers and resorts to petty criminal activity (vandalism) to get herself in the news. .. She's the one who will pick off the die hard Bernie supporters.

And now for my third party candidate: ZOLTAN! .. I'm not sure how many ballots he will be on. .. He represents the Trans-humanist Party. .. Their platform contains many progressive ideas that for right now anyway are just too far ahead of their time. (One of them being a "guaranteed basic income".)

Looking at the big picture, the choice seems obvious to me. .. But I don't believe that many voters look at the big picture.

--- Um yeah. The house choosing the president is very likely with the scenario we have now. That could even mean Mitt Romney becomes president!

Monday night will be interesting.

I may have to check out this Zoltan guy he sounds interesting. Not for president though.

Unless one of the two drop out for some reason which seems unlikely it looks like a choice of the least damaging candidate and that certainly shouldn't be Trump.

Nobody really knows Johnson other than the folks from the state he was Governor of and he kind of spaced out on the Aleppo question which doesn't help him none.

The big picture is the important one to be watching at times like these. We definitely don't want another decision made by someone other than the voters.

Your point may not be apparent enough for your non-American readers:
Our electoral college is set up where a majority by a certain percentage needs to be accomplished. If trump gets 512 electoral votes and Hillary get 560 and Jill stein gets 25 and Gary Johnson gets 50, then our Speaker Of the House then decides who will be president. (Since those 75 votes would have put Hillary into the majority that would have been clear that she was the winner) That would be Paul Ryan, who endorsed Trump.

I have said this before- it is too convenient to forget the electoral college until this situation arises again. I would like to see a movement, set in motion grass roots style, to abolish the electoral college and go to a popular vote majority wins style.

The observant make the best lovers,
I may not do right, but I do write,
I have bliss, joy, and happiness in my life,

Yes, I agree with your first paragraph. I have a few disagreements with the way things are done in this countries electoral process that I would like to see changed as I've mentioned in some previous posts. especially the nominee selection process and the varied voting laws in different states. I definitely don't like the party control of the primary process. I'm not totally sure I want a simple majority as the winner but I'm leaning that way and it would allow third party participation to work better.

Not an American, but certainly my vote would be for Johnson, and I imagine those of a Libertarian persuasion will do so, and the Greens will vote for their Green candidate.

Trump (in your case) or Clinton should pick up votes from those who despise what they stand for and the baggage they carry because the vote will be close????? Seriously, that's the logic here? If that's the intellignece over there, no wonder you lot are a laughing stock with the two most despised candidates

tickles4us replies on 9/25/2016 7:55 am:
Then you would be wasting your vote because he has zero percent chance of winning and therefore your vote would be a waste of time even if made to make a statement as then it could well be that the worst of the worst wins.

I'm not too sure who's the bigger laughing stock.
