Do not blame yourself and do not deny your self the fun and pleasure of the next man that is looking for you right now. If you fall off the horse you have to get right back on. So brush your self off and get back at it and have some fun. I'm not saying you will not get a broken heart from time to time but you have to keep on going for the good ones.

It seems like he decided at some point that things were not going to work for whatever reason and did not have the balls to tell you directly. Then he just made excuses and kept it going until he finally decided that he would just stop communicating with you altogether and "hope" that you would be the one to then tell him to screw off, which let him feel better about himself. Or, there is the possibility that his "dead" wife just came back from her trip wherever and he couldn't figure out how to see you without getting caught, so he kept up the excuses until you got fed up. Sorry that you had to go through all that. There is no way to know the truth unless he tells you and i doubt that will ever happen.

Hard to say really as I don't know the scoundrel, sounds like he has problems telling the truth and then some. In the long run though the best thing to do is to try and move on and put it all behind you, I know, easier said than done.
