I love this movie. When he makes the decision to let the robots carry on without him, its just heart breaking. As for being simple...often the simple things are the hardest to understand.
    Good post.
Thanks for reading! I'm with you- I got emotional about this movie in a way a lot of classic scifi can't match. It was a great movie.

Oh WOW!! So simple and so deep and you are so right!!
I don't recall watching the movie, (was to to young, lol) but is definitely my kind of movies, and will look for it - Thank you!

Although there was something else that draw my attention on the way you described the movie main character... "In another life and another time he might have been a forest recluse and woodsman. He was born out of his proper time and place..." That is something I believe deeply...
Not to mention that Trees can actually be good advisers... (Oh god... now I will sound completely loony...LOLL

Fantastic post sweetheart {=}

Thank you dear! And if you're looney then so am I. I think lots of us feel like we'd have been more suited to another time and place. An idea or an emotion takes hold of you and you just know you would have fit better elsewhere. A great many people are pretty adaptable and not much inclined to dreaming or thinking, but for the ones who are different there's a yearning for something deeper.

5 Salomon islands are completely submerged. Much of the remaining islands are 20% under water already. Their neighbor Australia is having extreme weather lately. I am delighted that Trump and Bernie are doing so well. The corporatism establishment is getting blown up.

Even Speaker Ryan and Sen McCain might lose their seat. So would a lot of establishment democrats. Global elites are loosing elections replaced by radicals of every persuasion. we have the technology, if the resource hording elites loose their stranglehold we could fix it in less than 10 years.

Today we produce so much food. There is no reason for hunger and starvation. But the powerful assholes turn human food into gasoline in a world awash in petroleum.

Trump is not anti- corporate or anti- establishment. He's more invested in the system than even the career politicians. He's a con man. Such men NEED the system. He plays it like a game that he's figured out, or THINKS he has. Trump is a fraud and a scammer. Just because he's stupid doesn't mean he isn't dangerous.

Rudolph W. Giuliani, Michael R. Bloomberg, Joe Torre and Billy Crystal along with Trump and Clinton. They are all close buddies. making fools of us. Trump is neither stupid or crazy. He is a textbook case of megalomaniac. The real reason he ran for president has to do with 740 Park Ave.(Obama alluded to it in White House Correspondents' Association dinner) That is the building that Jackie Kennedy grew up in and built by her grandfather in 1930. They have just 31 multistory apartments. Each one goes for over 100 mil a pop now. Trump tower was valued by forbs in 2013 at 318 million total with a $100 mil mortgage. He sells a studio apt for $625,000. A far cry from 100mil/ unit at 740 park.

Ultra Conservative republicans like oil heir David Koch and ultra liberal democrats like Billionaire Blackstone founder Steve Schwarzman lives in John d Rockefeller's old triplex in it. Cosmetics heir Ronald Lauder,Time Warner CEO Steve Ross,Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain,ITT chairman Rand Araskog,Fashion designer Vera Wang, and to Trumps annoyance fellow billionaire Real estate developer William Lie Zeckendorf also live at 740 park.

Those 31 people are worth about a half a TRILLION dollars. Average maintenance can run $10,000 a month. A lot of super rich want to live there. Barbra Streisand, Neil Sedaka, junk bond tycoon Nelson Peltz, and Russian billionaire Leo Blavatnik have all been rejected by the co-op board at 740 Park.

All he is trying to do is catch up with 740 Park in prestige and get Russian and Chinese billionaires to shell out over 100 mil per unit. It would translate into a few billion more to Trumps wealth. He wants to be king of the hill and top of the heap. He is no where there yet.

Tag of conservative, liberal etc are all BS. They play both sides for their benefit. While Bernie people and Trump people beat each other, The top .01%, they live like extended family, play together, go to each others functions even marry each other.

Trump got over a billion dollars in free publicity by running. His new tower in front of the white house is going to make much more because of all the publicity.

If he becomes President it will be business as usual. All these people are buddies and take care of each other. Trump's daughter and Clinton's daughter are best friends. Trump and the Clinton are close as well, you wouldn't think that from all the vitriol. After the election they will still be buddies. Trump is a blue collar guy social climbing with old money and power.

I want all the incumbents out of congress. Trump and Bernie are making it happen. Presidents can only go on foreign tours and vacations without congress.

Isn't it contradictory to claim that Trump is a social climbing blue collar man-even though he's never worked a day in his life at manual labor- and that he's changing the dynamic, getting all the good ole boys out and at the same time he's the ultimate business as usual insider? Trump needs this rotten system- his entire game is founded on it.

I stand by my comment that he's stupid. He's ignorant to begin with, but I'd also assert that he can't learn. He appeals to the basest instincts in the basest voters, who are equally stupid. His appeal is to bigotry, misogyny and xenophobia. There are two fundamental classes in America- the Rich and the Not Rich. Trump has money so he gets into the Rich club, irregardless of his rank at birth or the sorry state of his manners. He's a huckster and a hustler and he's more invested in the current system than anyone chooses to admit. He's the creation of the Republican party and the corporate media, like a Frankenstein monster , fearful and hateful, and he will destroy us all if he isn't destroyed first.

The insinuation that Bernie Sanders and Trump are appealing to the same strain among voters is a lie perpetrated by the corporate sponsored talking heads. It creates a false equivalency that is in no way real or true. Truth is not balanced by lies, and every opinion is not the equal of another. Language is ostensibly used for communication, but instead it's often used to confuse and obfuscate, and that's what our major media are doing. They're selling Trump because he's great clickbait.

Fred Trump did what Joe kennedy did. Rose Kennedy's dream was that one day her kids would be allowed to play with the"nice people" ie WASP's. Sam Walton drove an old pick up truck, when he wanted to go public, he was considered too hillbilly to be a CEO of a listed company.( his kids collect art and do other things that old money does) Queens New York where Trump grew up is quintessential immigrant ghetto. Each ethnic enclave controlled by local mafia. As a kid If a German/Scott like trump walks in an Italian or Irish neighborhood he would be beaten to pulp and vice versa. Justice Ginsberg talks about being a Jewish girl in Brooklyn having to run the Gauntlet. But her best friend later on was Justice Scalia.

All the super ambitious ethnics send their kids to top schools and universities and encouraged them to marry old money. Clinton's dad was a drunk named Blythe. Clinton is his wife beating step father.Bloomberg also comes from a humble beginning. He didn't qualify for John's Hopkins but as a charitable gesture he was admitted. He gave John Hopkins over a Billion dollars as thanks once he became rich. The school of Business and public administration that bears his name is one of the best in the world.

East Orange NJ real estate that trump inherited from his dad is like Flint. Mostly extreme poor Blacks, Hispanics and old whites who are too poor to get out. Unlike most slum lords, he takes good care of them. It is an oasis of clean, calm and is free from violence. The rent is very cheap as well. Best deal in town. He didn't sell and get out.

So there are 2 trumps. One who competes with the old money and acts crazy, craves attention and acceptance by the elites and one who never forgot where he came from. If you go to East Orange, most of his poor tenants have a personal story of his un advertised generosity.

I agree 100% with you that we have 2 classes. rich and poor. As a practical matter it is a life and death issue. To a great extent the zip code decrees you life expectancy. I told you before, that had I not moved I would be dead 10 years ago and my kids medicated as retarded, maybe even institutionalized. My friends wife would still be alive and my wife's sister in law would not have died. All of us were misdiagnosed. We were expendable, because we were poor.

Pretty much every news on advances in medicine i post here comes with the ethical implications and question of who gets it.

Kennedy married Jackie who grew up in an apartment that is worth $100mil. Bill Clinton married into old money and power "Goldwater girl" Hillary. All these guys are Huslers. Sec Kerry married Heinz(the ketchup girl), His grand father threw a dart at the map of England, to decide where to immigrate to. The dart hit the map of county of Kerry in Ireland, and they used it as their family name to hide the fact that they were Jewish.

Trump was the only person who wore suit and jacket and carried a brief case at UPENN, so that he would be taken seriously by the legacies. They didn't. Then his dad bought him a rolls Royce, still the girls wouldn't date this "white trash" who on weekends had to go to Queens and work at his dad's construction projects.

The rules of elites have not changed. Either you marry into it, buy into it or acquire through political power. All the wannabe's do it by hook or crook.

He wants Trump tower which is ranked 17 to compete with number 1 ranked 740 Park. He will say anything to increase his prestige and stature. He wants his family to be the next bushes and Kennedy's. If he wins it will be like Regan and Tip O'Neil. Vicious and vitriolic in public, but they liked each other very much and got a lot of legislation passed.
Trump compared Dr. Carson to a pedophile. Now that holy roller is a close confidant of an atheist who calls himself a good christian who likes 2 Corintians. For a Nazi, he had no problem that his princess converted to Orthodox Judaism. He loves his son in law, and the feeling is mutual. Trump acts like a moron, but actually he is an oxymoron, singularly focused on status. He throws money around old money politicians like Romney, Bush and Clinton, so that they would come and kiss his ring at Trump tower. Feds have nothing to do with construction permits. He does it to increase influence and power to acquire status.

I am not at all worried about Trump or Bernie. Hillary worries me. Like old money everywhere she is indifferent to the plight of regular folks. Great at sympathy but no empathy.

I'm not gonna delete any comments you make. You're right- we got off track, but there's no rule we can't do that if we feel like it. But I'll end the discussion there by not responding with another diatribe about Trump.

So true Bill, the way we pay no heed to our beautiful world - and if you say that movie was so long ago - (nope, I don't know it) - but if back then it was already a prob, then how much bigger the prob must be today? A great title - "The Silence of the Trees" - and they give us oxygen!

Thank you Becca. there have been too many of us for too long. Restraint is a virtue, but not a common one for the bulk of men. I think we need to get a lot more conservation minded quickly if we're going to save our home.
