sex workers

Amnesty International is advocating decriminalising sex work that is consensual. Some celebs are arguing this is bad policy.

In my view the stigma of crime is bad for sex workers and increases the cost and harm to the sex worker.

Just like criminalising marijuana use makes it more dangerous. Because banks are afraid to take in cash deposits from marijuana dispensers they have lots of cash around. Leading to robbery and burglary and gun violence. Make it legal and crime decreases.

The Swedish model of arresting the purchasers of sex does not solve the stigma and still increased black marketing of sex work.

So the sells just massage and then the sex worker offers a happy ending consensually for another sum of money...

Legally you cannot buy sex, but you can pay for time and then someone can decide to have sex or not... Makes for hypocrisy and wastes criminal resources on petty stuff that damages the ability of sex workers to get normal jobs later. The stigma of crime is damaging and does more harm than the sex work.

Sex workers who are female risk stds, stigma, pregnancy and low self esteem. Why do this job? It pays better than being a doctor with minimal skills and training.

Should we allow people to take such risks for money? We allow coal miners, professional boxers, football players to risk concussion and serious injury for money. We allow cliff divers, pole vaulters, race car driving, scuba diving, motor cycle riding, etc. We allow to ride bicycles, skate boards and to ski. People risk their lives for money or just for fun. Should we allow people to take such risks? If you believe in liberty and freedom of contract we should allow people to do dumb stuff if they choose to do so, if they are adults and freely consent to do so...

Hmmmmmmmmmm, why do I absoutely agree with you. I falls back into the history of our country where our founding fathers talked about "moral laws"! No such thing. Great post.
