Do I need more protein? Less? More carbs? Fewer carbs? Better fats?

You probably aren't going to like this answer, but I don't believe there's any one cut and dried formula. I'm in an athletes' discussion group on another site, and some people swear by Paleo (heavy on meats, some vegetables, little or no grain); others do really well with a vegan diet. It all depends on what mix of foods help you to maintain a healthy weight while feeling energetic. It can be very different from one person to the next.

It's a given though, that sugar and refined carbs aren't going to be your friend (which is unfortunate, because they're my favorite thing, haha).

I just started using the app also.. I've yet to meet the suggested ranges in the catagories except 'sugars'. I know my morning smoothie has the most sugars (naturally) but that one little piece of processed snack seems to put me over the edge. Very telling about the world of processing.
Good Luck

Would suggest not to have too many changes at the same time!
Don't know you that well but most people are fed up after a couple of weeks if too many changes to the previous.

Good luck!!!!

YEAA GR! 1.2 lbs in 4 days is awesome! You are obviously doing a great job! Keep it up!

A word of advice though; Wifey wanted me to remind you that it is not generally a good idea to lose more than about 1 to 2 pounds per week (2 lbs/week if you are really heavy). More than that is not considered healthy unless it is under the direct supervision of a doctor. She also mentioned that the first week or two you tend to lose a bit more and that that is OK. The trick is to change your long term eating habits.

Keep up the great job!

If you really have to cheat, do it, enjoy it and then get right back on the program!
Good luck!

12 lbs in 4 days? That's fucking amazing!! Wow! I can't imagine you looking sexier, since you're already one of the toppers on my list, but hell woman! I just might have to take a closer look next time I see you. You know, for scientific reasons and such. Strictly by the book. I just didn't say WHAT book!

Humus? Wow, you like to live dangerously...

And you have scales that do 200G? Please give me the dirt! (And tell me how, in the space of 4 days, you know it's not just water... I need help, dammit!!!)

gottaring replies on 1/6/2013 12:27 pm:
Not sure what you mean by 'scales that do 200g', but I do know that a lot of the weight I've lost so far is water weight. I always lose water weight first- it lasts about two days and then I start burning fat. How can I tell? By the way my wedding ring fits .

As in, 'it hurts to masturbate' kind of sore...

Gosh darned that's sore! Can't say I have ever been that sore my sweet, and I do believe it would take a double amputation to stop me from jerking the bacon!

Do the treadmill love. The one that shows you how much calories are burned. I go on it for an hour and burn a 1000 calories at a time.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was that the majority of ones carbs should be green (greens, broccoli, lettuces, etc) , than brown (brown rice, whole grains) and white sugar should be avoided like that creepy cousin we all have.

(Um, okay, maybe that's just in my family)

The same person also said at the bare minimum 75% of our fluid intake should be plain water.

Finally, allegedly caffeine can cause sugar cravings and dehydrate you so it's supposed to be better to cut it out (or at least cut back) if you are on a regime. I couldn't do that last one and refuse to believe it but there it is.

gottaring replies on 1/6/2013 12:29 pm:
I wasn't aware that caffeine could impede weight loss, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. The on,y two beverages I drink on a regular (daily) basis are coffee and carbonated water. No soda, no juice, no alcohol (usually).

If I have to give up coffee, I can. I don't drink it to wake me up- I actually like the taste. I'm just as perky a d annoying without it .

Im in the same place you are with the accountability, which is why I log everything I put in my mouth. It DOES help. Like hornyguyMN, Im a a soda addict. I gave up the High-test (aka real Coke) several years ago and switched to Coke Zero, but I know I still drink to much of it. I can easily go thru a 2-liter a day. So.. my change this week has been to alternate a coke with a big glass of lemon water. So now, once I get my big assed (24 oz) glass of water down I reward myself with a Coke Zero. Happy Cat.

Now if I can just curb that craving for a pizza on Friday night.

I never fell into the trap of soda addiction- one thing I am VERY proud of. I do enjoy carbonated water, though.

I've been tracking my intake for a few weeks now- it's AMAZING how much we are really eating when we see it on paper, huh? I never, ever would have thought I was consuming anywhere close to 2,000 calories a day! Lo and behold, those macadamia nut clusters are slowly lining my coffin with their caramel goodness.

I'm currently exploiting the whole school thought that says 'a calorie is not a calorie'. Point being, different foods have different caloric impact. I'll keep you posted on want I find.

Well I will give this tip from when I started my trek to loose some weight. Making huge overnight changes to your diet and routine are hard and in most cases doomed from the start. People put unrealistic goals out there that Superman and Wonderwoman couldn't live up to. Simple things are best to start with, especially with diet. Cut things down instead of out. For example I know I drink way too much soda if allowed to. Soda is empty useless calories but I love it. Tell me I can't have anymore ever and I will rebel against it eventually. So I limit how much I can have. When I make burgers or hotdogs at home I have them without buns to cut down on carbs which I know I get plenty of anyways. Little things like that did me a world of good.

I'm down two pounds since I disclosed my weight on here a few days ago. Talk about accountability! LOL

Exactly! I'm hoping to be somewhat accountable to the people who attend the Bash. Especially those who met me last year when I was at my lowest weight in the last 12 years.

You and I both know that no one will reject or accept us based solely on our weight. The people who attend the Blogger Bashes we host aren't concerned with what we look like- they're there for the camaraderie. But we still want to put our best foot forward, and that's what I hope to do this year .

dont forget your good carbs like oatmeal (steel cut) not instant

gottaring replies on 1/6/2013 12:37 pm:
See, I've been told time and again to stay away from all grains- steel cut, refined, processed, raw...doesn't matter. I'm not sure what to believe, because I've always been under the impression that things like steel-cut oats were excellent for providing fiber and keeping you full so you don't overeat.

Thoughts?
