POSH DOUGHNUTS

After the makeover of the cupcake, doughnuts are now getting a makeover. Global sales of gourmet doughnuts have mushroomed in recent years.

Doughnuts are now being made with exotic fillings and toppings and then sold for up to ten times the price of traditional doughnuts. In the UK, the average price of a simple doughnut is under 50 pence; posh doughnuts made by Crosstown are selling for £3.50 each in Selfridges, one of London’s top department stores.

I love doughnuts. The simple jam doughnut is my favourite, though I also like cinnamon-coated and custard-filled doughnuts. I’ve not tried a posh doughnut yet.

Do you like doughnuts? If so, what are your favourite filling and toppings?
Have you bought or would you buy a posh doughnut?
Do you say doughnut or donut?

The dictionary spelling for the ring-shaped cake made of dough and fried in fat is doughnut. Though the word donut has been around since the late 1800s, it wasn’t popularised until the late twentieth century with the arrival of the thriving American doughnut chain, Dunkin’ Donuts. Americans mainly say donuts, and the rest of us often say doughnuts.

I really enjoy donuts, I am a plain donut guy, great for dunking in my coffee. I doubt I would visit that shop, they are a bit too fancy for me.

I love donuts....I use this spelling because there are fewer letters.. I like yeast raised donuts much better than cake donuts!
Chocolate topped and filled are yummy...my favorite is the "French Cruller" (the middle left one in your photo!

In Canada Doughnuts rule... just say Tim's and everyone know what you are talking about, and where to go.

1. Yes, the very simple iced sugar dough ring is my favourite.
2. Not at £3.50 a pop!
3. Doughnut is my preference, but this is a multi-cultural ville we blog in!

Krispy Kremes opened a franchise on the outskirts of Embra a couple of years ago. It turned over more than £50k on it's first day, police had to manage the queues for the drive through which were backing up on to the motorway. The queues are still crazy even now. I haven't been. It's all a bit bizarre!

I love doughnuts and my favourite filling is vanilla custard.

And it's doughnut!!!!

I love doughnuts but only have them as a rare treat. It takes incredible discipline. My favourite filling is the custard and I only like the chocolate topped ones (see pic on my 'obscene cravings' post, placed retroactively)... I also love a freshly made cinnamon doughnut with good coffee.

I have never bought but might, just to try, a posh doughnut. The final question has already been answered.

The other spelling is a 'do nut' and just another way Americans tend to bastardise the English language to suit themselves. I don't hate them for it, it just irritates me.
Custard, chocolate, cinnamon and coffee - is there a better combination?

I'm surprised they don't now call them "D'oh nuts"...
I'm sure it'll happen; it's evolutionary from doughnuts to D'oh nuts.

Homer's right, doughnuts can do a ot of things. I think posh doughnuts will catch on - if cupcakes can, doughnuts surely can!

Plain sugared doughnuts with unsugared coffee is a perfect combination.

If it's eating six doughnuts and doing a ten-mile run, I wouldn't eat the doughnuts. I like doughnuts but not that much!

I don't think, as a matter of human rights, we should ever have to pay £3-50 for a vanilla custard-filled doughnut!

    Eye-bombed doughnuts, yaaaaaaay! Lol
This is the third time I've tried to post this, I suspect HotMatch.com doesn't like one word so I'll be more cryptic.
Here's an eye-b**bed litter bin for apollorising's woman to throw her doughnut box in after she's eaten them all!
