What it means to be a man.  It means you take responsibility for yourself and your actions It means you look for affirmation from within It means you are always honest and upfront It means you never see a woman as just an object It means you always treat people graciously It means you are always looking out for others It means you always let your actions speak louder than your words It means you are independent, self sufficient and able to take care of yourself You are true to your word and you live your life courageously! Affirmation is such a huge part of what it means to be a man. We're all really just little boys, bringing home a dead road kill or something and looking for affirmation. Shit my does this and it's something endemic to the male gender. The trick is to find that affirmation from within and NOT run around looking for it from our wives, girlfriends, mistresses or mothers. That's what it means to be a man. Taking responsibility for yourself AND your actions. You don't come home after work and throw your dirty underwear on the floor expecting the magic fairy to pick it up, put it in the hamper, wash it, fold it and put it away neatly in your drawer for you. You take care of it. You don't miss a payment on something because you were out drinking with the buds and spent all the money. You take care of it. It's called responsibility for a reason and as a man, you SHOULD be able to bear at least your freakin share of it eh? Think of others FIRST! I know it's hard but try it. There's SO MUCH more to this world then beer, cars, sports and belching. Read a book, see a movie, take a class, become involved, quit sitting around whacking your dick HOPING some 19yr old hard body is going to instantly materialize and suck you dry. DO SOMETHING! Real men are NOT afraid or in doubt regarding their sexuality. I'm not talking about being gay, bi or whatever: I'm talking about how you see yourself in a sexual way. Porn videos are NOT the �way� to learn how to make love to a woman. WOMEN are the �way� to learn how my friend. Just ask them! To be a good lover means to be comfortable in your own skin and confident in yourself and your abilities but even more important, it also means being open and attentive enough to understand what your lover wants, needs and HOW she/he wants or needs it. Knowing why is extra credit BTW That's being a man. Your life is measured NOT by the toys you have at the end, contrary to popular opinion, but by the smiles you�ve left behind. By the people who speak your name in love and kind thoughts, who KNOW they can turn to you when the going gets rough or they need a friend or someone who can help or a role model for a younger person or someone who�s fallen and needs a hand. I really like this description, but I have a couple things to work on to fully materialize these standards in myself. Mostly, I probably need to date, and I definitely need to get my own place since I do not feel adult like living at my fathers house due to some recent circumstances with myself getting into trouble with my unwillingness to work positions that are not to my standards and the fact that Im afraid he will die within a year of my moving. Ive had to save his life several times since Ive been staying with him due to Diabetic shock. Now he says he will get a monitoring device, so now I am feeling cool and super excited to finally materialize full adulthood with myself. According to my plan, I should be able to realize this within a few months, and I am completely confident in the likelyhood of the outcome. Im pretty sure Ive got the other stuff tied down though I am concerned that I may experience attachment too fast and be way too open and honest which makes relationship dis-regulation more likely to occur due to the expectations of current social conventions. Anyways, kudos. This seems like a good model to aspire to though maybe not just for men. Wouldnt it also be positive for women to aspire to these standards themselves?

Excellent post Tazz I couldn't have said it better. That is exactly what a man should be. Especially the part about being sexually secure. Many of the other qualities are general knowledge for pretenders but they show their colors there all the time. The smiles we have been part of last longer then any toy we could ever own. Not that I disagree with most of it or really any of it. BUT My dogs have brought back road kill or maybe something "she " Killed and presents it to me. well not just dog but dogs almost every dog I have had has at some point brought something home or back and every dog I have ever owed has been female sprayed but still female. Maybe Nature has less effect than nurture. What has changed lately ? The nurture part. No kid is allowed to fail, pass them on to the next grade it would tramatize them to FAIL a grade. We, society has decided that ah lets give them another chance. We are reaping what we sowed. One of the 10 year olds that killed James Bolger 2 year old in the UK in 93 having been released in 2001 has been arrested on child abuse charges opps "alledged". So this prick beat a 2 yeaar old to death serves 9 years and now look what happens. Be a man, SURE. BUT we need to be a respoinsible society and that is not just men.

Doing right is never easy, but it pays massive dividends in the long run. Being responsible for your actions and being who you are, not what everybody else wants you to be is the same thing. Be the man, but be real!! Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.

Good post my man, Truly. Having been raised by my great grandmother, and loving her dearly I took everything she said to heart, and even as a young teen I was always told by those around me how mature and respectful I was. I have learned many things as ive grown older, 1. a woman is almost always right. 2. men with honor and a trustworthy word are remembered and love long after there gone. 3. remembering the little details is just as important as the big one. 4. And being attentive, honest, strong, dependable and open is the only way to be...

Sweety, it is a great post (and a nice drooly pic too) but much of what you say is not solely true for men. Women should be those things too. Okay we don't sit around wacking a dick we don't have but sometimes we do wish a 19 year old hard body would come along (especially if he's as mature as a 40 year old). Muah...
