Why do people lie? If you are hoping to meet someone what is the point in lying about your appearance? I had the unfortunate experience of meeting someone whos picture was taken before she put on about 5 stone. Did she think that I wouldn't notice?
This isn't about fat v thin, it's about being honest. I would have had the same opinion if she had said she was 5'2" and turned out to be 6'2".

You can lie about your background and get away with it but not the way you look.
