I know it's so early this year. I'm not sure what I will give up this year actually. Probably soda. Certainly not sex. .

Mardi Gras is early this year. It is based on 47 days prior to Easter, or the first Sunday after the vernal equinox.

We had some great parties and parades in Mobile. I collected quite a few beads, among other things.

I think I'm giving up high fructose corn syrup. I'm debating soda altogether, even though I probably should be decided in the next 20 minutes...

For me Lent is about making the kind of sacrifice that triggers personal reflection.

Rather than give things up, I try to do something I normally wouldn't do that makes me more reflective while helping others. Usually, it's been some kind of volunteer work or donation.

Lent snuck up on me this year so I haven't decided what I'm going to do but I am considering making cold weather baggies for homeless women with things like tampons (you would believe how hard it is for these women to get adequate feminine supplies), those disposable hand warmers, granola bars, hand sanitizer, etc.

That is an amazing useful and worthy view on Lent. Choose to make a difference during that time. I've never thought of that and am almost ashamed I haven't .

What can I say, I'm just a nice Catholic girl.

Maybe next year we should plan a blogger bash for Mardi Gras!
