Censorship and Banning

Yesterday a blogger initiated a post and poll regarding a petition to the site to police transgendered members choice of gender in setting up their profile. I voted against it and was one of MANY who left a respectful yet dissenting comment. Here is the comment that I left to support why I voted against it:

Quoting pandora684:
I think one of the founding principles of this site is staying out of other people's business. If a trans person wants to list the gender they identify as rather than the one they were born to, it's not up to any of the rest of us to police them. Far more people are deceived by those claiming to be single when they are married and cheating than by the gender choice you refer to. I'll warrant the damage done by lying about marital status is far worse to those victims. Where does it stop, is that going to be the next petition?

pandora684 has made some valid and excellent points.

Caveat emptor is Latin for "Let the buyer beware." The phrase caveat emptor arises from the fact that buyers (aka members) typically have less information about the good or service they are purchasing, (or receiving) while the seller has more information. The quality of this situation is known as 'information asymmetry'. Defects in the good or service may be hidden from the buyer, and only known to the seller. It's up to members to do their own "due diligence" but I think anyone who's a regular blogger is painfully aware that the person in question is a transsexual thanks to your repeated attempts to get the information out to the blogging community.

You've CLEARLY made your point. (Insert said blogger's profile name here), might I ask why if you aren't "buying" or receiving services this member is offering, whose business is it to you if others get duped? The way I see it, this sounds like a personal vendetta.

Like others that have respectfully commented on a PUBLIC blog posting soliciting votes for a so-called "poll" I have been banned from that person's blog and presumably my vote and comment were excluded from consideration. That is her right and doesn't affect me in the least. I did not read nor follow her blog regularly or the person she refers to. However, the practice of banning and removing bloggers who disagree completely invalidates any results her poll gets.

Obviously this blogger has a right to censor what and who appears on her blog. She does not have a right to censor what appears on mine, nor any other blogger.

She seems to be a bit obsessed with this person's gender and that shouldn't be the focus of the blogs. It should be about what the blogger puts out there for comment, opinion, voting, information, venting, etc. If you're not happy with the blog, or the person posting the blog, just stay away from it. There's nothing and no one making her read the darned thing.

You are obviously correct and that is how it should be. Unfortunately many people see it differently. It's when those differences cross the line into harassment or abuse that I feel the site needs to take a stand.

Time to lock down Title IX before Trump get in to office Right? After we would not what Trump to use this to change anything Obama as done via of Title IX right?

The Obama administration is using Title IX rather than going to Congress or public opinion for a new law. I guess that they don't want to put Democrats in the uncomfortable position of voting "yes or no" on this issue. So they expand Title IX like they did with ObamaCare.

At some point, I'd love to see a Democrat stand up and say this: My fellow liberals, do we want these executive powers in the hands of President Trump?

In the meantime, it must be nice to write letters that affect parents but do not apply to your own kids.

It was not my intention to make a political statement with this post. I was simply trying to call attention to the deception and abuse that is occurring within the site, particularly in respect to one of its members.

I have seen both transgender profiles and female profiles where the woman stated that she was transgender. I don't see any problem with either, although I did not vote in a poll, nor will I seek out drama. I think you are correct.

I feel everyone should be allowed to enjoy the site free from harassment or abuse. That was the only point I was trying to make. I do not consider my statement to be perpetuating drama but rather bringing awareness to equality and fairness.

Didn't see that poll/petition but probably not one I'd voted or commented on, touchy subject. While I never shy away from a good debate, I've not had much interaction with transgendered members on this site or in my personal life. I can say the ones that have approached me on the site have been upfront in their profile saying that they're not born female, whether it be in their headline or in the last paragraph. What HotMatch.com censors or denies is a subject I could debate way more intelligently. The shyte they allow as acceptable as well.

Standards are people too.....kinda

Well, it WAS my intention to make a political statement, in the broad sense as well as more narrowly. I was watching the continuing persecution of one member by another for personal gain, and that's what I've been seeing in national politics as well. A small section of the population is being scapegoated by appealing to people's basest prejudices. The fears that are being raised have no logical basis in fact, and the laws passed are ridiculous and unenforcible. I'm not about to be so rigorously tolerant that I tolerate intolerance. I didn't WANT to have to speak up, but I felt it was well past time that I should.

Thank you for writing this post.
I AM political and what is happening is touching on my last nerve.
So I am going to now exercise my right to blog about whatever the hell I want to and to let other people know that it is never ok to censor other people.
Thank you again,
Kk

I agree with what you are saying that this is a site where people shouldn't be concerned about something so petty as the issue in question on the poll/petition.

I do believe in this case it is more a jealousy issue of a certain person having lost a position that she apparently coveted very highly. As a result she has resorted to a rather low level of prejudiced behavior in a futile attempt to regain what she has lost.

The shame of it all is the whole thing is about being at the top of a list that is irrelevant to anybody but the most foolish and egotistically vain individuals. Who really cares whom is at the top of the list. After all what is so good about that in the first place. It just says the individual is a slave to the viewers whims.

I told her she was making a mistake when she first got started on this behavior a while ago but she didn't listen. I doubt she will listen now either but I suspect the site would call it discriminatory behavior if someone was to make the appropriate complaints about her remarks.

I didn't bother commenting. As stated, the persons birth gender is listed in their profile. How many married cheaters will put that in theirs like I did. If you won't pay to read or bother to read a profile, then you shouldn't feel duped.

I would have voted against the petition also.....for most of the reasons already stated....

yes, censorship abounds on this site....so does discrimination. I believe in live and let live. I saw that post you mentioned and I chose not to even acknowledge it....I just left and shook my head. It's their blog, but I choose to not to comment.
