Virtual Symposium- Doors and Bridges In My Life!  Doors and bridges are part of my day to day life. I walk many doors throughout my day and I drive over several every day to and from work. I never give them any thought normally. But, today I am pausing and perusing them. I have had many doors closed and slammed in my face. Lost opportunities and possibilities at every turn and it seemed insurmountable. But, alas a new pathway was given to me…a window opened or a hidden pathway was open to me. I think when things are at their worst, if we keep our cool and our mind open, we are given new chances. Opportunity is what you make of it. Whining and crying over spilt milk does not get you anywhere, but with hard work and determination things are possible. Leaning on friends and family is the best curative for failure! Failed relationships or lost friendships are not the end of the world but a new beginning in making new friendships. I was laid off work and I did not give up hope. I found work in a month and I was thankful for this opportunity. I remember a closed door doesn’t mean it remains closed, but rather it has door knob you can turn to open it again! It made me a better person! Crossing bridges is metaphor for change. We cross many bridges in our life. From grade school to junior high to high school, change was scary and hard, but we made each transition in our life with help of our family and friends. My relationships crossed many bridges. I have had many friends in my life for different periods of my life and locations. I have gained many and lost a few. I was in several relationships I thought was love, and it was but it was not meant to last. I was married and now divorced these last 13. I am in a one year and half relationship now, but I am not sure I am in love, but I do know I like being her company and we have lots of fun! I tell everyone I will not marry again, but I will cross that bridge in the future because who knows what the future holds? Transitioning with my life and my work has taken several forks in the road as well as crossing many bridges! I was in the military and I thought I was a career man, but I resigned. I was in the restaurant business as a general manager of fine dining establishment and I thought it was for the long haul, but I got married and had a - then the realization of working 70 hours a week was not feasible and conducive for family life, thus a new career path. Now, I am helping people in a professional capacity. Several career bridges later, here I am. I remember to never burn bridges because I might to cross back over the same bridge in the future. Doors and bridges abound in my life daily and in my life metaphorically! No what if’s or could of’s can change where I am today. I am happy for my life decisions. Yes, I do have regrets, but I try not to let it ruin my day! How many doors and bridges have you crossed?
